just some ideas...

Here are some great ideas from me, to you....
Thank you, and proceed to read:

idea #1

I am sure all of your have heard the horrendous screeches and cries of the Twilight fangirls from across the world...if not, that cat you heard crying by your window last night, was NOT a cat. That was probably me. Anyway, they fired the girl who plays Victoria and hired someone else. Now, nothing pisses me off more than a recasting. So here is the idea:
Let's all gather our pitch-forks and beat up Summit Entertainment. Ready? Let's go.

idea #2
Ya'll can come over and bring your "grungy" towels to help me sop up the terrible flood in our kitchen. No...the flood was NOT sent because we have sinned. More like, ghetto dishwasher. How did I know this? Because I didn't see a rainbow or a dove anywhere. Trust me...I checked.

idea #3
I love monograms. I love them so bad. I went on over to Joann's and purchased a ginormous cardboard "B" and medium sized "L" and "T". The large letter was about 8 dollars, but when you use a 40% off coupon, it's pretty reasonable. You can get the smaller letters for 3 dollars.

I then spray painted them white....

and came out with this...
I plan on adding upholstery nails to the border of the letters, and then hanging them in our bedroom. Sorry for the blurry picture. I was a little mormon-tipsy. Meaning...I ate too many sweets that night.

idea #4
I had the best recipe idea the other night, and I just had to share with you! I usually make my own pizza dough, but I was in a pinch (whatever that means) so I bought the pillsbury kind. I then sliced very thin tomato slices and cover the entire surface. Then drizzle a small amount of olive oil and then sprinkle with garlic salt. On top of the tomatoes, lay plenty of baby spinach. And then about 4 slices of prosciutto, cut up. Then with about 3/4 cup of part-skim ricotta, mix it with pesto. Dollop the ricotta on top of the spinach and then sprinkle with a bit of mozzarella. Bake, and eat!

idea #5
Yet another, recipe.
I found a recipe on Picky Palate and then totally adapted it. I bought some ciabatta rolls and then spread a bit of butter on them. I sprinkled garlic salt and then garlic powder on them. I layed a pile of spinach on top, and then on the other half of the roll I layed a slice of provolone cheese. I baked the rolls in the oven for about 10 minutes. While it was baking I prepared some tuna the normal way but added ricotta to it. Yummo! When the rolls were all melty, I took them out and then layed a bit of prosciutto on them, built the sammies, and voila!

even though ted looks pissed...he totally LOVED it...

idea #6
oops...one more recipe.
I made this for family night on monday. I took a bag of fat-free popcorn, and popped it. I then took about 4 TBS of butter and a hand full of marshmallows and a half cup of white chocolate chips and melted them all together. I needed to add a titch of milk, to make it thin enough to pour. I poured the mixture onto the popcorn and tossed. Pretty much the best thing of my life.

idea #7
You all have heard the talk of "statement necklaces" being the new "it" thing to wear. Especially if you team a statement necklace with a basic tee and jeans. Well, being not very rich...meaning, being poor, I couldn't justify forking out money for a necklace to wear with jeans.

I decided to buy a basic chain necklace from Walmart...

I then bought some safety pins, and faux pearls.
I strung the pearls onto the pins and then attached the pins to the chain necklace.
This picture doesn't do it justice...the necklace totally rocks.
I think I got 8 compliments on it the other day...srsly.
And it only cost me 6 bucks! Yesssssssss.

So...if you want, try these things out and let me know!

Erica & Albert said...

Dangit! in my haste to write that comment someone beat me to it. Now I have to sulk...

Ok moving on...

#1: WHAT?! I had not heard this horribly angering news, and am not too happy about it. It's completely lame.

#2: that completely sucks, my apologies.

#3: awesome.

#4,5,&6: When I get around to cooking again for myself and the hubby, I'll try these. That popcorn looks bomb!

#7: Once again, very awesome. I would have never thought such simple things as safety pins could look so cool

im with you on # 1. i'm seriously pissed. *raises pitch-fork above head* let's go!

The whole thing with Rachelle is very sad... I mean, it said she had scheduling conflicts because of another project... but would you really start another project when you were in the middle of a gigantic movie series? I think not.

With all that garlic you're eating (which, btw, yummmm!) I have to wonder how Edward would feel?

Bryce and Bree said...

All of it is darling! The food looks scrumptious. And I love the big monograms. I got that B a few months ago and spruced it up for my little sisters room! IT'S MASSIVE! So hot. Ps...maybe we should have "cooking nights" too. Maybe we should just have every kind of night.

Jadeth said...

My husband is a huge popcorn fan and I am gonna try it tonight. The necklace is way cute but I'm so not brave enough to wear something like that. Sorry about the dishwasher. but at least you have one. I don't, and hate it!

Marissa said...

I love all of those ideas!!

Sara said...

Hubs just walked up behind me and saw your ciabatta sandwiches. He drooled for a minute then informed that I have to make them. I'll let you know how they turn out.

I will also make the popcorn, although I'm pretty sure it's a sin. Just sayin. And M has the giant Joann's M on her wall and I bought it using my 40% off coupon (check your newspapers, people). High Five!

Amanda said...

Whaaaat was Summit thinking?! I love your idea -grabs pitchfork-

The monogram craft you did looks awesome! I might have to steal your idea :P

And ALL of that food you made..look SO fantastic. :D

So I thought it was funny that in the popcorn recipe you used fat-free popcorn and then 4Tablespoons of butter! LOL. I love it! :)

Emily said...

Great recipe ideas.

I LOVE monograms too!!! And I totally forgot that JoAnn's had the HUGE ones. I saw them when I was planning my wedding...I'll have to go get at least an "M" :) Although I did just go and buy a big M that I have to find something to do with ;)

props for being able to pull off that necklace!

Klin said...

So........ my popcorn is in the mail as we speak, right?

I am a sucker for sugar and that popcorn is just right. So good sounding in fact that I forgot how mad I was that they recast Victoria.

WTHeck!!! How can they do that and justify it to US!! Don't they know the fans are the ones they have to please. We are waaaay more violent that Stephanie. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!

Yvonne said...

Recipes look great.

What is with the recast?

Abby said...

Such creative ideas! Love that necklace, though I think I'm too plain to pull it off!

Tuna and ricotta??? I am scared. I'll take your word for it :)

Nancy Face said...

Your monogram sounds scrumptious! I want one for lunch!

Meghan O said...

I like ALL of your ideas. I'll bring a pack of paper towels for your kitchen floor, some stuff to make some adorable necklaces and maybe those headbands too (we can have craft time) and you make the snacks. JK but I wish, that would be fun. The whole pitchforks thing sounds like it might be a possibility. It stinks I liked Rachelle as Victoria =/

Kim said...

That popcorn looks yummy (and I don't even like popcorn!) Oh and the pizza--have to try that! That necklace is awesome!!

Laura said...

Yum that pizza looks awesome. I love having 40% off coupons at Joanns.

I cannot believe that about the Twilight recasting! I hate recasting!!

And...that popcorn sounds heavenly!!

Lauren said...

I have my pitch fork ready!! I am a farm girl.. so I really have one ready.. I'm being serious here. I can NOT believe they fired Victoria. She was amazing!

Also I want to make all those recipes and the monograms!

You are sooooo awesome! Thanks for the idea post :)

Mormon Bachelor Pad said...

Um... I totally saw the Virgin Mary in the soapy, bubbly mess on your floor.

LIndsay said...

Omg...my sister just bought those exact letters from Joann like 5 days ago...no way! They are awesomeness!! And using them for that whole 3-d monogram thing? BEST IDEA ever!! I might have to steal that for my dorm room. Also, since you are like design diva extrodinare, do you have any tips for decorating the ol' dorm room? Or just decorating in general? I think we need a "Lauren's decor tips" post. To quote you,"Just sayin." PS I love your little music player thingie...coolest thingie evah!

LIndsay said...

PPS Where the heck did you learn to cook? You are like gourmet chef-ness. I am so completely jealous of your mad fashion, cooking, and decorating skills. I know that when I get my own house and have to cook for myself, it will NEVER be as perfect as that. I am soooooo Envious!!!

twin2trip said...

will you come cook for me ....please

Katie said...

I was starting to wonder what to do with the rest of my summer break, but now I've got jewelry to make and food to cook. Which works for me because I'm a big foodie and like to spend mass quantities of time cooking then eating. I really love the necklace idea, so thanks for sharing--I'd been wondering myself how I could get an "in style" necklace for cheaper.

Oh, and lastly, (is that a word) I am really angry to hear about Rachelle. What the heck? She has been such a supporter of the franchise so it seems like an awfully cheap thing to do to her. Lame, Summit. Lame.

Jaydey17 said...

Once again, loving your crafty-ness!
And that food looks delish . . . except maybe the popcorn. I hate marshmallows lol
That necklace is AWESOME! well done you; you'd be charged about $30Aussie to buy something like that from my fave accessories shop, Diva.

And as for Summit? They suck.

Jenn said...

I stumbled upon your blog through a friend. Love your daily musings!!! I love the monograms and the pizza looks very delish (i might add artichoke hearts, too) :o)

Bella said...

I'm really sad they recast Victoria! And over a minor scheduling conflict...

Love your recipes!

Sara said...

I was thinking about the Rachelle thing last night. They replaced her with Bryce Dallas Howard, who I like okay, but having her play Victoria bothered me. I couldn't figure out why. Then I realized why:

Rachelle is FEYARCE. Bryce is not. Boo, Summit. Boo. For shame.

MoreThanMyOwnLife said...

The food looks so scrumptious. Seriously, that pizza is making my mouth water.

I'm all for number 1. Stupid summit...

Jordan said...

I wish I was half as creative as you! When I win mega bucks and have a bunch of money I am going to fly you to Vegas so that you can decorate my house! And so that you can take my picture. I love everything about your style! You are awesome!

Natalie said...

rainbows and doves..AHAHAHAHAHAHAH. lauren i'm so glad we're bffs. freaking i would like to pee my pants right now--'cept im wearing a skirt. and regardless of WHAT adam sandler says, peeing your skirts is just never cool.

ps i was at joann's t-minus 2 days ago getting vanilla for my cookies and tootally saw those letters. and the best part? i thought to myself: "hmm..twinnerface lauren could do something cool with them letterboxes"

go fig.

Heather B said...

i have an insane amount of jealousy when it comes to your creativity. i want to fall to my knees like Wayne and Garth and yell "I'm not worthy"...but I have taken inspiration from you and spray painted some of my odd ball stuff that now looks tres cool. Thx Lauren!

LindsB said...

I almost died when I heard that they replaced Victoria- like I dont get how they can do that?? They know how crazy obsessed fans are and that this is not ok with us- I hate it, hate the new Victoria and will never like her.

PS- thanks for finding my blog and commenting- now I'm off to spend the rest of the day reading yours from start to finish, and no I'm totally not a stalker, I just realized that came out wrong :)

The Nye's said...

mmm that pizza looks delish! I will definitely be trying that one out!

Alice said...

I am sooo Bitter about the Victoria recast! I'm driving the bitter bus...hop on!

Seriously where does one find tht 40% off coupon you speak so highly of?

Quick story: When I was a newlywed I had NEVER had a dishwasher (other than my hands ha!) in my life. So in our new fancy apartment I loaded up the dishwasher and added regular dish soap not dishwasher soap...it was a HUGE mess!! I was in tears and had to call my mom to come over and help clean it. haha! I never did that again!!! *end story time*

:D

hillishilarity said...

Woot -I love your ideas!

I have your Joann monogram letters on my wall already! I painted mine black and it's the bomb. :) If I post a picture of it on my blog, I'll be sure to let ya know.

hillishilarity said...

Oh - your floor! I'm so sorry for you - but it must be super sparkly clean by now. :)

Shannon said...

Mmmmm--that pizza looks really good. What temp and how long did you bake it? I'm going to have to try that one.

And if we all make your sweet necklace with the safety pins, we can use the safety pins in our quest to torture Summit for Victoria's recasting! And look fabulous at the same time! Can you say "Win/Win"?

J and L Palmer said...

um, popcorn looks amazing! and if your house ever floods again, and you don't think it's drying very fast.. my husband does that kind of stuff for a living. i'm sure he could let you borrow a fan or two for a couple days.

Ella Press said...

Cool post!
I can't believe they're changing Victoria! Rachelle looked great for that part! But the new V, Bryce Dallas Howard, actually looks like Rachelle...
That necklace is seriously neat, I'll have to try sth like that.
Thanks for the tips!

Christin said...

Fail Summit - major fail, is all I have to say on that little situation. . . (but will totally head to the Home Depot for a pitchfork!)

So you have inspired me to hit up the Goodwill around here looking for nifty fixer-uppers. :) So far I've gotten 5 books. . .to read, no fix up, but oh well! LOL ;)

Joanne said...

Lauren, that popcorn looks so yummy..! I'm gonna have to try that!

Alicia said...

They recast Victoria?! Normally this infuriates me, but--don't hate me--I really didn't like the girl who played her in Twilight, so I am happy.
P.S. Marshmallow popcorn was a delicacy at my house growing up.

Head Nurse or Patient- you be the judge said...

I haven't noticed any comments about the dishwasher- but it looks like a flood caused by the wrong detergent- I haven't seen dishwasher detergent make that many bubbles-and unfortunatly I have to open the dishwasher mid cycle frequently to add a missed item-

Natalie said...

Even though we're supposed to write happy comments, I need to buck the trend. I loved me some Rachelle, and I share your pissedness over her departure. My pitchfork is lit, and I'm looking for some direction. Which way do I go?

B.T.W. The neclace? Uber-fab.

Michelle said...

Summit will be sorry!! I've had that happen with my dishwasher several times. Make sure the pipes inside the wall didn't leak into another room. Ours leaked into our bedroom and our carpet got moldy. that popcorn looks SO good right now.

Cool recipes and ideas! I think I may have to vegetarianize your ciabatta roll sammies!

You know, it's interesting to think about where we are individually in terms of not having money, and what we choose to buy. I have what I basically need, but things are pretty tight. We choose to have long-distance phone service because all of our family is long-distance, and we have the internet. The rare times we go to the movies are at the dollar theater, and we nearly never go out to eat anywhere unless it's someone's birthday. Maybe once a month or so we'll get pizza and bring it home. I admit at times to being a bit envious when reading your blog that you can go to the thrift stores and buy cute things to decorate your home, or clothes for yourself, because I really almost can never do that at this point in life. I'm not complaining though, because 4 of the reasons why are my 3 (4 any minute!) children, and they are completely worth it.

Then I think about the people who James was among on his mission in the Dominican Republic, who had way less than I do. My house would seem like a mansion to them. They have one room houses, dirt floors, chickens running through. Yet many of them were happy.

I guess "poor" can be relative. I hope I don't offend you by typing this, but there are definitely different kinds of "poor". I never had handouts to go to the mall either, we lived on my dad's SSI because he has a chronic illness and couldn't work. Things were extremely tight growing up, but I'm grateful for it now. I've learned a lot of valuable lessons from that.

I admire your frugalness and resourcefulness. It's amazing what you can do when not everything is handed to you and you have to rely on your creativity. And you, my dear, are quite blessed in that department! I really enjoy your sense of style. You go, girl!
