lauren reviews stuff

Here at Busy Bee Lauren, I really value my readers. I deeply care that they get up-to-date information on the most cutting-edge news. You know...stuff that really is important. Life or death type of importance. So, here I am...giving you reviews on whether you should spend your time caring about the following things:

1. Atonement, by Ian McEwan
This book was entertaining....just the way I like them.
It had beautiful prose.
I loved the setting.
I loved imagining the main character with James McAvoy's face.
Well hello James McAvoy...you are looking rather makey outey...
Anyway, the book had a crappy ending.
And it said the "c" word...and I hate that word.
So I don't recommend it.
Unless you like bad endings and "c" words.
Then, it's the book for you!

2. Confessions of a Shopaholic
Ted and I were at Walgreen's the other night, to buy a mexican ice lolly and a package of Bump Its. I know...random, but awesome.
While we were there we rented a movie from the Red Box.
Nothing like a DVD and an ice lolly to make a Saturday night spectacular.
Anyway, I picked the movie...because I always pick...
Duh.
Ted prepared his snuggly spot on the couch in preparation for a nap, while I watched...but we were both pleasantly surprised by this chick flick.
It was way funny, and not too cheese ball.
I loved her outfits.
I loved her humor.
I ♥ Hugh Dancy {huzza!}
And I el-oh-vee-eeeee Isla Fisher.
The movie was cute and I will most def be buying it!
Ted liked it because it wasn't Twilight. Win!

3. Zac Efron's Hair Cut

Before...

After...
Now, all of you now, when it comes to my Zac Efron, I never discriminate.
But I think he may have gotten my frequent texts, gently suggesting that he might want to "snip snip" a bit off them tresses.
You know...since he and I text and stuff. Aint no thing.
But anyway, that's besides the point.
His hair is cut.
And when I saw the photos, angels sang. Heck...I even sang.
"It's a night...to remember!"
You know...kickin' it High School Musical style...
Aint no thing.
I even called The Tedward into the room and said, "You know my bee-eff-eff Zac Efron?"
And The Tedward said, "Oh yeah...I know your bee-eff-eff Zac Gayfron. What's he up to these days, besides being Gayfron?"
"He cut his hair!"
The Tedward: "Oh good...looks less Gayfron."
So, all in all...we thought the cut was a smart move.

4. Amy's Veggie Burgers
Ya'll know I am a health freak.
Well, I'm not afraid to venture outside of the box and eat foreign foods.
Foreign as in...Veggie Meat Loaf. AKA..."meatless meat loaf"
Or...Tofu spaghetti.
Well, last night we had a BBQ with coolspice friends.
Ted bought hot dogs for himself.
I bought an Amy's Veggie Burger for me-self.
Um...hi.
You have to "spray each side of pattie with cooking spray".
That is not a burger.
I should have been afraid at that point...but I wasn't.
I persevered.
And I ate it.
And I hated it.
Anyone want the rest of the package of veggie burgers?
They are currently left in Ty and Sierra's freezer.
I pretended to forget them, but it was actually veggie burger neglect.
So, if you like crap, buy those.

sweet post! :) i want to see confessions so bad, i only saw like the first 15-20 minutes of the movie of atonement, even though james mcavoy is like way hot, i couldn't watch it. also, i have a random question: what is your church's thoughts on dancing? like at that winter formal you posted about, were yall allowed to dance at that?

Busy Bee Lauren said...

Hey Tina :)

I have actually been asked a few times if members of the LDS church were allowed to dance. When first asked, I was stunned. I had no idea some religions didn't allow dancing. Anyway...yes, we are allowed to dance. I started dancing at age 2 :)

Lauren the confessions of a shopaholic were orginally a book series and I read the whole series! Some of the funniest books ever! There is language in it, so if that bothers you then don't read it but if it doesn't then pick those books up, there are 5 books in total! They are so funny!

Did you say you were buying Bump Its? As in...those hair thingys that I see on the infomercial? I'm not mocking, just asking.

I really liked Confessions of a Shopahollic. I think Isla Fisher is absolutely adorable in it. And the clothes...and the shoes....to die for!

Hooray that Zac got your texts. It's about time!

oh lauren.. when will you learn that when it comes to vegetarian meals always consult the buttons first?

those are sicknast. i prefer boca :)

Bryce and Bree said...

Haha I love you. "Ain't no thing" is probably my favorite thing that you say. Confessions of a Shopaholic...hilarious. Ashtyn and I rented it and we were like peeing our pants through it. We'd look at eachother in the sort of way that says "Did she really just say that" or..."Is she really wearing that?"

Tay said...

Boca Burgers are not my fave, but I've heard good things about black bean burgers. I personally like a good turkey burger. Or a really bad-for-me-juicy-burger. Mmm...

Good thing Zac-to-the-Efron got those locks trimmed. He was starting to look emo.

Klin said...

"veggie burger neglect" LOL

Stephanette said...

I was waiting for the bump it's review? Do you like them? Do they make big happy hair?

Ann Marie said...

Ew to the burger!

Like your reviews! You can always make me smile!

Marianne said...

I love Boca and garden burgers...thanks! I'll stay away from Amy's...poor Amy!

My girls rented "Confessions..." and I confess, I didn't watch it. I thought it sounded dumb. now I am mad at myself!

Did you really buy a Bumpit? we saw the info-mercial awhile back and laughed our heads off!! I have the feeling you will "Bumpit" with style so we won't have to laugh again!

JustRandi said...

I love LaurenReviews!!
I have actually been thinking about all of those things and sort of wondering.

Well, not about Zac. (sorry)
And the Amys burgers were actually Boca burgers in my wonder. But other than that, I mean.

What I really want is a Bumpit review. I've been debating the Bumpit. What do you thinK?

Jayci said...

thanks for the info! :o) I'll have to check out Confessions of a Shopaholic. Maybe Mark would stay awake for it if Ted did!

LoOove 'Confessions of a Shopaholic'... lOoOoOoOve Zac Efron & his hotness of the new shorter 'do!!!
{I'm even the creepy in-love-with-a-younger-guy girl who posted a picture of me kissing him on a movie poster} And I most def will be stayin away from that crazy Amy lady's veggie burgers I like to stick with what I know anyway & I'm a huge Boca fan!

Heidi said...

Okay, so I've never left a comment, but I have to tell you that I also hate hamburgers. It's not really a health thing... they're just gross. Sooo, if you like mushrooms, (I love them) then you have to try this. Buy a portabello mushroom, (you know the big ones) and grill it exactly like you would a regular hamburger. I even season it the same with montreal steak seasoning and worchestershire sauce ( I know I spelled that wrong and I don't care)Anyway, it's sooooo much better than a hamburger! Give it a try and then post if you liked it or not. BTW, I linked to you through Tori. She's my bud!

Laura Sue said...

i really loved Confessions of a Shopaholic! I will definately be buying it! Rusty actually liked it and admitted it so it definately wasnt too much of a chick flick!

thanks for the heads up on the veggie burgers! let us know when you find good ones! :)

Nancy Face said...

What? You don't like crap-burgers?

Who knew?

I went to see Confessions of a Shopaholic because there was nothing else to see. I expected to hate it, and the Dad Face REALLY expected to hate it, but we were both pleasantly surprised! It was awesome, and I plan to buy it, too! :)

Nick & Kristin said...

thank goodness Zac listened to you...it was getting a little out of hand

Allison said...

The shopaholic book series are just as funny as the movie! Maybe a little too chick-lit-ey for you if you read more Atonement-type books, but funny all the same! And you can read them and imagine "the main character with Isla Fisher's face" :)

Whitney said...

Be still my soul... Zac efron rocks my world. His haircut. Dreamy. I am a big fan of real hamburgers actually cheeseburgers. BRING ON A HEART ATTACK. I know. ridiculous. Loved Shopaholic. SO cute! Have I ever told you I love ZAc efron?

I love your blog...it's so much fun!!! Anywho...Confessions of a Shopaholic is awesomeness!!! :) How great is Red Box? I just discovered the greatness of it a few weeks ago. Love it! If you dare try another veggie burger - I suggest Morningstar Veggie Patties - they are pretty tasty! Thanks for the heads'-up...I won't buy Amy's. I don't like the c-word, either! :)

Emily said...

I watched Confessions this weekend as well. It was one of the dumbest and cheesiest movies I've ever seen BUT I did laugh a lot and I mostly really enjoyed it. And I also *heart* Hugh Dancy (and I saw him in person at Sundance *sigh*).

Erica & Albert said...

Dear Lauren,

I have a random question that has come about from scowering your past posts just for fun, that may seem stalkerish and personal as most of my comments do, but are your madre and Jillene's madre sisters? Just wondering....

~Erica

ps: love Confessions. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hugh Dancy is tasty. Veggie burgers = not tasty. The end.

Melanie M said...

Lauren, please don't be ridiculous, Zac's hair looked way better before. Just sayin :)

Alicia said...

I'm pretty sure I warned you about Atonement. All of a sudden, out of NOWHERE, the heinous "c" word. One whole shocking line in the entire book. So weird. And the ending did totally suck. I didn't like that book at all.
LOVED Confessions of a Shopaholic...the movie. Adorable. The book however? I got a chapter into it and had to stop, and I've never done that before. I don't recommend the book, at all.
Zac's hair definitely looks better, and I say kudos to you for eating a veggie burger, period. You couldn't catch me gagging down imitation meat.

Jami said...

you crack me up!
Did you watch the movie? Probally not b/c it was an "R". But I watched it and loved it. The "c" word doesn't bother me b/c I have NO CLUE what it means. I didn't even know it was a bad word till like 6 months ago. So I guess I just don't even get it...
BUT I have been wanting to read the book, so I am glad you reviewed it!
AND, I love shopaholic. Seriously, made my day. I was having a bad day and it totally cheered me up.

Lindsay and Dano said...

I am laughing so hard in my mind right now over the veggie burgers!!!....still laughing!! Love Confessions of a Shopaholic. Come over lets watch it again!

Laura Sue said...

Topic idea: How to Bump-it!

Stacey said...

1. I HATE the "c" word! Blech!

2. I really want to see that movie! My SIL said her hubby liked it too,and he does not like the chick flicks.

3. I <3 Zac Efron..<3 him!

4. *GAG* Personally,I don't like crap.
I have to have REAL meat! I am a carnivore.

thanks for answering my question lauren! i was just wondering because we aren't allowed :( sad time.

Too many comments to read so if I'm repeating sorry!

Lauren, I had a recoomendation once to try the Boca brand.
They are awesome. It's not a thick burger its a thin patty.
I get the "flame grilled" kind, and put those on the grill for me during barbecues and it really has the bbq taste, even if you just nuke it.

I think my daughter would love to watch that movie. We have girls night together very often. What's the rating on it, and would you think it's fine for a preteen?

XOXO

amanda leeann said...

Atonement is on my bookshelf...so i will read it because i'm like that. but thanks for the heads-up!

can a bump-it review be next? pleeease? i'm a big fan of poufed hair. and want to know if they are worth my while.

efron= much better.

and the line "veggir burger neglect" made me lol =]

Michelle and Dan said...

I read Atonement about three years ago way before the movie came out. My older sister got it for her B-day from one of her crazy " I'm a lit major and what i say is golden" friends. I decided to read it 1st. It was interesting, but i really did like the ending. It's def a hard one to get through. I was very exhausted by the end of it. Ian McEwan write exactly like Ernest Hemingway so if you like Ernest you will like Ian. The movie was amazing by the way, but if you want a GREAT read, read "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly." The movie is foregine but really really well done.

I've never posted but i love books so i wanted to say something. :)

My whole life I've wondered if Amy's California veggie burgers were any good, but I was always too scared to try them. Lauren thank you for being the brave one and enlightening us all. OH and thank you for convincing Zac Efron to cut his hair. We're all so grateful.

I am so glad I decided to blog a little today. I'm going around to all my favorites, and finding everyone still going strong. I'll read up more later, but I just wanted to be sure and say hello, and thanks for keeping your blog alive and well!

And I thought about a mean comment till I saw your warning!

Gotta go see your Mom's now!

Uptown Girl said...

I <3 Shopaholic!!! and i <3 Hugh!
I read a couple of the books and although they changed a TON of stuff for the movie, I still loved it. Now, that was a well-done book to movie transformation. UPTOWN STAMP OF APPROVAL.

Atonement on the other hand... just saw the movie but didn't read the book. Even with James McAvoy, I managed to hate that movie, the whole way thru, and the ending.

Britney Jean said...

i was so excited when i saw you reviewed a book for me. i was thinking, "oh yay! new book to read." then you said you wouldn't recommend it. sad day. but i'll take your word for it.

the veggie burger story made me laugh. a lot. ahahaha. still laughing apparently.

and that hair cut was WAYYY overdo Mr.-Zac-why-are-you-so-hot-Efron.

Honestly... I don't care how Zac's hair looks....because if he has his shirt off, that's where I'm mostly looking anyways... :D (Is that wrong?....)

Sierra said...

i saw that you left those veggie burgers in the freezer. i was planning on returning them to you when you were next over if i remembered...however, after reading about the weavles cake, i will definitely remember! haha! sucka!

I concur. Zac does look less gay with his hair cut. I'm pretty sure it was MY texts that influenced him...

Lula! said...

"So, if you like crap, buy those."

Amazing...funniest thing ever.

And I haven't read Atonement, but the movie was semi-decent. Best "ahem" scene ever. In the library. With her green dress. Good times.

p.s. I love Zac's new 'do.

That Zac Ef pic in profile, at first glance looks like a cross between Tedward and & Robward's hair. Just sayin.
