squirrly squirrels...

i don't know how many of you have driven right along the coast, but dude...everyone needs to experience it. the drive was really slow due to the fact that their were sharp turns right along the cliffs. i'm serious...on the highway you hug a cliff on one side, and the other side is a steep drop to the ocean. i think i got to enjoy the view a lot more than the tedward did because he got car sick after a while. poor thing...

luckily, there were MANY "vista points" where you were able to pull off to the side and enjoy the brisk ocean breezes and stunning views. this was at one of our favorite vista points...

doesn't the ocean look so frigid? i bet it was, because the outside air was in the forties! the forties! thats as cold as it gets in the dead of winter in mesa. awesome.
(ignore my hair...i have no idea what is going on right thuuuuur)

i took a picture of this poor fellow because he was just so ugly. i felt bad for him. all the other seagulls were chillin' together, being fed pieces of bread...but not this little guy. probably because he was so hideous. in the end he was lucky because HE ended up on the internet. AND i gave him sun dried tomato wheat thins. SUCKAAAAAAHS!

here is the tedward, looking..."special".

and here i am...looking "special"...except it wasn't on purpose.

now, for the MAIN reason why we enjoyed this particular vista point the most...

there were TONS of little squirrels! i'm not joking when i say that there were 20 squirrels...srsly. they were everywhere! and they were so tame. you could crouch down, stick out your hand, and they would run up and sit in it! i didn't do it, because i don't like rabies, but apparently ted likes rabies because he played with them foreverz. i think i could have written a dissertation in the amount of time ted played with them. if the tedward dies from rabies...i will be auctioning off his Lord Of The Rings book tapes. kthanxbye!

if you didn't know it already...i heart the ocean.

ted thought i would contract an aneurysm or something fatal when i looked over the steep edge of the cliff....but i was just fine. yah...i rule.

a few miles away from the vista point, we stopped at yet...another beach.

engagement ring
wedding ring
promise ring
i ♥ the tedward.

i had been messing with the settings on my camera for a while, and when i finally looked up, i saw ted drawing something in the sand...

and when i peeked to see what it said...

...i smiled.

PS...have a good weekend! are you following me on twitter? you should. the end.
PSS...anyone new around these parts? introduce yourself! :) hi...i'm lauren. your turn!

The new layout looks great!! You're a fantastic photographer! I have to say, I'm pretty jealous of your picture-taking skills =)

Your pictures are always so amazing. It looks like you had the most wonderful time!

My old college, there were squirrels all over the place and one jumped out of a tree onto the shoulder of some guy. The squirrels were not afraid of people like they should be. I was always very wary of the rabid squirrels.

Okay so I'm semi-new. I read your blog all the time, but never really get around to saying much. So hi, I'm Elyse :) Your photography is amazing, and I'm living vicariously through your photos. I don't get to make it out west again until December. The Pacific Ocean totally kicks the Atlantic's butt.

Once again amazing pictures. Me and Christine G. tried to drive home from Portland on the PCH....we got lost and drove not on the PCH. I am sad now because I have seen your pictures and they are amazing and the PCH is amazing. Maybe me and Jack will drive on his motorcycle. That would be cool and cold.

beautiful pictures.

I love the picture of your rings!

All the little squirrels are so cute!!

I L.O.V.E the rings shot. That would make a great something...scrapbook page, gallery wrap frame, book cover, decorative card...so many ideas that you could do with that!

Liz B. said...

Hi, I'm Liz! To be honest I was a total lurker on your blog, but now I'm not! haha, sorry I'm awkward...

So, When I was reading this post a Wheat Thins commercial came on. Coincidence? I think not. :-)

PS I love your pictures! Except for the squirrel pictures. Squirrels are the devil. They chew through my wall and attack me in my sleep. True story. But I suppose the squirrels on the coast look a little less evil...

I so wish you lived in Minnesota. I would hire you to take pictures of my family. Wait- idea!!!!

Sara said...

Aww. Sweet post. :)

I love the ugly bird. I always love the ugly things most, because I think life must be harder for them. I even feel this way about stuffed animals and dishes and knicknacks, which is why have such a hideous collection of knick knacks. I have to show them love because what if no one else does? Ugly birds need love, too.

Tangent over.

hey lauren. i guess this is the second time i post here. I live in Viña del Mar, which is basically a coast, so it amazes me in a great way when people marvel (i probably wrote that in the wrong way...i hope you got the point) over stuff like the ocean. i will have to leave town to work in santiago which has no sea, lakes or anything, and i think that what i'll miss the most will be the sound of the waves crushing and the smell of salt. so i got all teary eye over your pictures...
lots of love and good wishes for you and the tedward!

Hi! It's been a while since i've been to your blog. I've been busy nannying in Alaska. Anyways, I thought I would share with you the joy that has recently entered my laugh; that you already had millions of years ago...that is TWILIGHT. I read the series and am INFATUATED with everything Twilight Saga related. It's a weird feeling, this infatuation. I have never before experienced such a strong emotion about a book! So...ya, there you have it.

Laura said...

Your pictures are beautiful. I've always wanted to drive up the coast... When I was in CA in May I got to drive on it for about 2 hours, totally not long enough!

I'm new Lauren!! well, this i guess is my second comment though. I love reading your blog, it's so funny. And i have nothing else to do since i just moved and currently am still friend shopping (you know how it is). well, i'm Mary - the username comes from my nickname of Mare, not werecat. no one calls me that, but it rhymed sorta. I'm from the zipcode of 30518, so if you actually look that up, you'll know where i live.

PS, my whole family is like deathly afraid of birds. if they knew you loved seagulls, they'd flip a gisgit.

I love your blog and I love how you write! You're like the ideal little wifey I love it! So, I was so glad that you commented on my blog and introduced yourself, because I too(obviously) love to hear all about waiting for missionary success stories like yours and your hubby's! They are quite rare these days, so I feel like we share an understanding for something other people will just never be able to comprehend. That being said, I love the pictures of your promise ring, wedding ring, and engagement ring! Give me about 9 months and I will be able to take the same one (only with much, much less photography skills) on a beach in Hawaii somewhere where me and Chad are going on our honeymoon! Woohoo! I love that you still wear your promise ring too! I imagine, even when I get the real deal, I would feel naked without it after having worn it for two years. Plus, there's a lovely farmer's tan underneath I'm quite proud of.
