congrats to Hana...because her husband, Steven won the first round of the HHC {hottest husband contest...it will be shortened from now on}. we will see him again when we do the final voting. if you still want to submit, you can!
1. The Time Traveler's Wife
now, i apologize to those who love this book, but i must share my opinion.
but dude!....i could NOT get into this book.
there are few books that i just stop reading altogether because i loathe them...i usually just push my way through {don't say it...don't say it...}.
not this case...i just couldn't do it.
i would rather spend my time reading something enjoyable than waste it finishing a book i don't like.
i won't tell you to read it or not to read it...just know i nixed it.
and i have a brand new copy if anyone wants to have it....

2. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs
dude...did anyone LOVE this book when they were little?
i remember hearing it the first time in the library at school when i was like 7 years old and just being enchanted by the illustrations and the fun story...

naturally i was apprehensive to see the lamespice-looking computer animated adaptation...but since my parents offered to pay for the Tedward and I, we went along. remember, my favorite word is free?...and peeta.
duh.

my parents were even cool enough to pay extra for us to wear the really nerdy looking 3-D goggles. if you go see the movie, i suggest you pay a little extra and catch it in 3D...nothing like seeing a 3Dimensional hamburger fly past you when you are starving...srsly.
my apprehension was in vain because dude...the movie was BRILLIANT.
the tedward and i laughed and laughed and laughed. it was amazing.
and want to know what sealed the deal? the fact that Mr. T was in it.
Yes...he was. it was epic.
and want to know what else was epic?
the fact that the hamburgers fell out of the sky perfectly assembled.
that is good stuff right there...
oh and btw...i have a crush on Flint Lockwood...the nerdy animated scientist. aint no thing...some girls have a crush on Eric from "The Little Mermaid"...i see nothin' wrong with that.

3. "The Fury" + "The Dark Reunion"
those that have read the Vampire Diaries, know that the first two books are joined together in one book...and the second two books are bound in another. last time i reviewed the Vampire Diaries was after i finished books 1 and 2. I loved books 1 and 2.
but i think i liked books 3 and 4 better.
elena is no longer a superficial stupid high school girl...
damon isn't as ridiculous...i sorta like him a lot in these books.
and stefan is...sigh...stefan.
there is more action. a lot of strong friendships. a lot of love.
you guys will like the final books in the series :)
i cried. srsly...i did.

4. FAME
now...i never saw the first one, so i can't give a good comparison.
but i can say that i really really enjoyed the movie!
even the tedward enjoyed it, which says something.

the music was fantastic.
the acting was great from such young up and coming actors.
there weren't any parts that dragged...it held your attention.
and oh...did i mention the dancing was phenomenal?

this girl probably is one of the most talented dancers i have ever seen.
i.was.in.awe.
too bad she is a brat in the movie. srsly. :)
so go see FAME!
have you seen/read any of these?
what did you think?
what have you seen/read lately that you enjoyed or hated?

I felt the same way about the Vampire Diaries books. That's why, on the show, I'm waiting for Damon to redeem himself, not nom on the football coach...
I adore Cloudy and the original Fame. Want to see the new version of Fame and the Cloudy movie, in 3-D.
Didn't dig TTW, either. Couldn't get into it. And everyone goes on and on about how awesome it is. Uh....no...not for me.
Yes, the 3rd & 4th Vampire Diaries books were better...especially the 4th. They're still no Twilight...or even worthy of being said in the same breath as The Hunger Games Series, but still. Entertaining.
HELLO--HOT STEFAN & DAMON TONIGHT!!! WOOOOOOO!
1. Our library doesn't have a copy of The Time Traveler's Wife yet, so I haven't read it. I've heard good things about it though.
2. One of my favorite books EVER. I took my two girls to see it in 3D and we all loved it.
3. Reading The Fury and The Dark Reunion right now. I feel like I'm on vampire book overkill right now because there are so many series out right now. But I'm willing to keep reading.
4. Haven't seen Fame yet but I watched the TV show when I was a kid. I love dancing movies, my Hubs- not so much. It looks like a clean movie, was it?
I still haven't read The Time Traveler's Wife, but I want too. That sucks you didn't enjoy it! But I was never able to get past the first book of Vampire Diaries. I wanted to choke Elena through the first one. I'm so glad the show wrote her in a personality. But Damen redeems himself? Intresting!
haha... I just finished the last books of the Vampire Diaries like at 3 this morning. (I know I am a NERD) but I did cry. So there. I wonder what the television series will take from the book, other than the character's names, since thats the only thing they took... I'm sorta sad that Mrs. Flowers, the boarder house lady isn't in the tv series... and darn it, well there be a Katherine this season? hmmm.. lotta think going on here. =] btw loved the post
I really enjoyed "The Time Traveler's Wife" but I sobbed so much during it. My mom hated it, though I'm guessing her reason's were different from yours--my mom just can't stand reading anything too tragic or sad.
You've convinced me to give "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" a try....except that I have no time or moola to see movies currently (except for a special outing to "Fame" this Friday, yay!) so maybe I'll catch it on DVD.
I maybekindasorta watched some of "Vampire Diaries" online last night. Don't know that I'm feeling it in general, but I can't stop staring at Paul Wesley. He is very Edward. I may watch from time to time just for the hotness.
OOh I love The Time Travelers Wife...the book and the movie! It is a little tough to push through at times...
I loved The Vampire Diaries! I really loved how the two books were bound into one...awesome!
I refuse to see Fame...I love the original and feel it is cheating! Oh and that awesome blonde dancer...she was on So You Think You Can Dance...she is great!
I want that BOOK SO bad! Never read it but I have been dying to. Let me buy it from you! seriously. I want it so bad!
Hi!
Check out the new blog I am starting!
Add me if you'd like, and tell your friends!
I want to see "Cloudy." Doesn't Miranda Cosgrove do a voice in that movie? I love her. She's adorable!
Haven't see or read any of your other reviews. Just got done reading "The Hour I First Believed" by Wally Lamb. Loved it! Always love books by Jen Lancaster! Hilarious!
First time posting here. I've read your blog for quite a while and really enjoy it. Keep up the good work!
Once I got past the awkward writing of the Time Traveler's Wife, I ended up LOVING it and like Katie I sobbed through the whole thing...but definitely worth reading. :)
I haven't read the Vampire Diaries yet. I'm going to start Catching Fire first! I'm so excited! :)
Looking forward to seeing Fame....
I'm sad you didn't get into Time Traveler's Wife. There's nothing worse than trying to read a book that you're just not enjoying :/
So I've read the first two vampire diaries books, and something about them never grabbed me. They were enjoyable enough, but not necessarily awesome... Maybe I'll grab the last two and give em a shot.
Meanwhile... I'll definitely be checking out Meatballs and Fame :)
The movie time traveler's wife i thought was good, it's not saying much because i cry at commericals but i did cry alot in this movie... i don't read but went with a girl who had started reading that book also but like u just couldn't get into it...
I haven't read The Time Traveler's Wife. I saw the movie and thought it was okay, so I considered reading the book... not sure if I will, now.
The Vampire Diaries - are they seriously good? They didn't sound too interesting, but I'm loving the show so far.
I haven't read the Time Traveler's Wife. The movie was really good. I've considered reading it.
Aww Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, such a classic children's story!
The Fury and The Dark Reunion were a good read. I thought the end was super weird and I was really confused, but it was still a good book. Apparently there are other books that are fairly new that continue on with the story.
Might see Fame, maybe.
This weekend I might be taking my brother to see Toy Story in 3D! He was like 3 and i was 5 when it first came out so we're pretty pumped to see it on the big screen!!
Animated crushes...ohh haha. I totally have one. I felt so silly but they made him so cute. Have you ever seen Anastasia? Do you know Dimitri from that movie? Such a cutie.
I loved the book version of the Time Traveler's Wife, but the movie version was not so good.
I really want to see Fame and Cloudy, but haven't gotten the chance yet.
I am currently loving tv - Gossip Girl, Glee, and the Office. Anything to take my mind off all the history reading I should be doing!
Someone loaned me "Time Traveller's Wife" to read this weekend--I'm already apprehensive because the movie was lame and the friend giving me the book hates "Twilight". strike 2.
"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" looks really cute--and it was one of the best books of my childhood. Totally seeing this one.
And the fact that the Tedward approves of Fame makes me realize I need to see this one ASAP and drag the boy!
Hated the Time Traveler's Wife. I started it and didn't finish it. I found it irritating. I don't have a lot of time to read and I don't want to waste my time on something I'm not thoroughly enjoying. So I didn't finish it either. Heard the movie was terrible too, from my friends.
I, too, abhorred the Time Traveler's Wife. It's a weekend of reading I can't get back!
Ummmm I may or may not have not realized that the movie "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" was at all related to the children's book "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" until I read this post today.
I may or may not fail at life for this reason.
(Now that I'm in the know, I'm totally going to see that movie because I love that book something FIERCE.)
just thought I would chime in. It says in your post that you just finished the last Vampire diaries 3 and 4.... you know there is another one right? Just came out earlier this year, and its going to be the first in a trilogy. Its called The Return:Volume 1 The Nightfall. Has all the same characters and picks up right after the last one ended, except this trilogy is supposed to be Damon centric (awesome!). I'm almost done with it (agree that its no Hunger Games, or Twilight) but if you have already read the first 4 books, might as well read this one. Its a quick read, and the next one is due out early next year!
xoxo

I have read Time Traveler's Wife and I LOVED it! Although, I can totally see where you are coming from. I couldn't get into it for awhile, it has a strange rhythm to it, but once I did get into it, ahhh I couldn't stop! That was one of the first books that I BAWLED when I finished it. I cried for like an hour after I finished it. It was ridiculous. I think sometime you should pick it up again, not right away, but I have had friends who couldn't get into it either, and like a year or two later they tried it again and loved it!
Have a happy day!
I used to have a crush on Aladdin, with his nice 6 pack and all ;).
I haven't seen or read any of those, I feel so un-cool.
I haven't read The Time Traveler's Wife, but I definitely want to.
What I'm loving right now - WINGS by Aprilynne Pike! I was never into supernatural/fantasies until I read Twilight and since I lvoe that so much I've been trying to branch out a bit. This is my first venture into fae and I'm only about half way through but it's great so far!
Time Travelers is one of my favorites but it was a bit hard to get into at first and keep up. But I still love it.
Now the Vampire Diaries books I was totally so so on. I liked the first three books the best. The last was not my favorite. I HATED the ending.
To each his own. :)
I heard Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was really cute! I want to see it.
I've had The Time Traveler's Wife on my book pile for about 2 months now but I haven't mustered up the energy to read it, yet. I've heard from some friends that they couldn't get into it, either. My mom loved it but I just haven't had a huge desire to read it.
Are The Vampire Diaries really that good? I have been watching the show with my sister, but I haven't read the books yet. I guess I will have to break down and buy them......
Haven't seen any of those movies but I did start the TTW while I was in Utah (my aunt had a copy). I didn't really get into the little bit I read, and then I forgot about it. Oh well.
The girl (Kherington) from Fame is from So you think you can dance and she is AMAZING! Love her!
I agree that the TTW if hard to get through, but I really enjoyed it for the most part. I liked the movie too. I'll have to go see the 3D movie with the kid. She would probably love it. Don't think I ever read the book though. Hmmm...I just bought the first Vampire Diaries book, and I'm very excited to read it. I'm reading "The Last Song" by Nicholas Sparks right now. Good so far. He's one of my favorite authors. I just ordered Hunger Games, and I am VERY VERY excited. Thanks for all the book reviews. I love that i'm not the only nerd who likes to read a lot. Don't have a lot of people around me that have the same hobbies.
My mother in law runs a preschool and they just got done reading cloudy with a chance of meatballs. She went into the video store to ask when it comes out and had to explain the movie to the guys in the store. Then she told them...Don't worry I will bring in the book for you, you can look at it and I will pick it up the next day....Oh She is SUCH a TEACHER! :)
I want to see Fame simply because Kherington is in it! She was one of my favorites from SYTYCD in Season 4. LOVE HER!
My kids want to see "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". They all love the book, so maybe we'll have to make it a family date.
carrington rules! i loved her on SYTYCD. i almost went to see fame last night but was too busy with other stuff, another time, another time!
I was definitely privledged in seeing Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs in 3D too! It was SO great! And i would HAVE to agree with you on having a crush on Flint! I love him when he's little, cute and nerdy. Then he grows up and is still nerdy! I LOVE THE MOVIE! ha
The cloudy with a chance of meatballs book is one of our favorites at our house. We were so excited when the movie came out. We haven't seen it yet, but that is good to know that you liked it.
i saw fame yesterday and was not very thrilled with it. the main girl reminded me of ellen page and her lines on her forehead that shaped into a V was Ku-hil-in me!!! and her voice... horrible, along with almost every other cast member. and they didnt even sing enough!! i think the music on Glee is WAAAAYYYY better so watch GLEE!!!!!! you will NOT be dissapointed!!!
I have been wanting to read the Time Traveler's Wife, can I borrow it? I saw the movie and hated it! I heard Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was excellent in all 3 dimensions haha. I need to read the Vampire Diaries...gotta get on that. Fame is SOOOO good, that girl is Kherington she was from So You Think You Can Dance season 4 and was one of my favorites and was a total sweetheart on the show. The hott guy Marco in Fame makes me want to cry from his hottness not even kidding, I downloaded these songs from Itunes by this boy band V Factory because he is the lead singer...true story he is sexy! Love Fame and him I am going to see it again tomorrow, I think I am obsessed!
K everyone talked up the Time Traveler's Wife like no other. I was all excited to read it, however I kept waiting for it to get good-and guess what, it NEVER did! I read the whole thing and felt empty about the whole experience. It sucked. Waste of friggin' time! :) Haha
yeeeeah, Kherington! Lar, i need to send you some YouTube links to last season's SYTYCD routines with her in them... she is fahbulous. love her, and she's definitely the main reason i want to watch Fame :)
heads up, too - Step Up 3D promises to have AMAZING dancing in it, although the story line might fall a little flat. *shrugs* it's also got dancers from last year's season of SYTYCD :) (best program on TV, Larkin. BEST.)
i'm more than keen for Cloudy! you have good taste, i watched the preview and instantly loved the scientist cutie :) love-love-loved the book as a kid, too!
I started reading The Time Traveler's Wife at the Library. I didn't end up checking it out. I guess I don't get what all the hype is about.
I haven't read Vampire Diaries...I may have to check it out.
I'm excited to see fame, since it isn't sleazy.
I'm going to go see Fame now.. :)
Thanks for the review!
I read the Time Travelers Wife but would not recommmend it and wish that I didn't read it. I actually liked the story but the "F" word was in there way too often. I should have just chucked early like you.
LAUREN! I just wanted to inform you that I have officially been glued to the Hunger Games series for the past two days. I was in my friends room, giving her a lil toast to her vacation, when I saw the first one lying on her floor.
She lent it to me and the rest is history... I finished it the next day, went and bought the 2nd book and now I'm sad because the 3rd doesn't come till next year :( It's like having to wait for Harry Potter all over again!!! GAH!
The point of this story is that I have officially joined your fan club... the end <3
My roommates and I have been wanting to see Fame sooooooo badly, but haven't gotten the chance to yet...
So sad that so many people didn't like the Time Travelers Wife. It's by far one of my favorite books. I think I read it in two days and dreamt about it for even more.
Oh well, I loathe Nora Roberts and look how many followers she has.
I am so sad you didn't get into TTW, it is probably my all time favorite book. I've read it several times. I'm not sure why exactly I love it so much, I just do. But I understand not being able to finish a book, and that sucks as well.
I loved Cloudy and like no one knew what I was talking about when I brought it up. I must go see it, in 3D. Is it weird that I have no kids to take with me? Oh well!
Still haven't read the Vamp Diaries...or watched the TV Show, I feel the Lauren Diaries are enough for me.
I might see Fame, I love movies that include dancing, so I'm sure I would enjoy it. And I never saw the original...so I won't have a comparison.
Great post, like always.
x, ash
I've been wanting to see Fame, but haven't yet!
I'm so going to take my kids to see Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs.
Yes, I've read all the vampire diaries books. The ONLY thing I didn't like about 'The Dark Reunion' was the end. I hate endings that seem like a step back wards. You know, like after watching multiple seasons of a show they suddenly are like, "Oh, guess what- all that was just a dream"
I seem to be in the minority, but I loved TTW! I can't wait to see the movie. :)
i liked time traveler's wife. yes, parts of it dragged. but i finished it. and cried. right now, i'm slogging my way through city of bones. jace is the only one keeping my attention.
DUDE. i heart cloudy with a chance of meatballs. and also harbor a small crush on flint. his hair. and his spray on shoes are a total win. plus, i laughed so much i was in pain. total win.
I tried and tried to read the Time Travelers Wife and so could not get into it no matter how much a tried. I finally gave it to my friend to read. So I totally agree!
I liked The Time Traveler's Wife after I got into it, which took several chapters. I didn't fall head over heels for it though.
I want to see the movie, but I think I just want it to be The Notebook again because it has the same girl.
Oh girl! I should've warned you. I HATED THE TTW!!!
After I finished it I was like... srsly I could've been reading the Hunger Games.
It made me feel yucky after I finished.
I read the TTW and LOVED it! It was my first grown-up book, since I'm so hooked on teenage trash (the good trash, of course). I cried my way through the last 50 pages. I mean I was BAWLING! And then when I went to see the movie the day after I finished it, I was crying in the very beginning just because I knew what was going to happen in the end. Shame. I can't watch anything without crying these days.
I am so out of it lately, I haven't seen or read anything on your list.. I have been so busy @ work playing boss while mine is off on baby leave that I haven't read or watched ANYTHING! She gets back in like 2 weeks an then I can have a read/movie-thon! LOL.
I am so behind on movies! I can't wait to catch up and see all these! So lately I've been reading the Sookie Stackhouse series, they're the books the t.v. series True Blood is based off of... Anyways I'll admit they are a little umm...naughty but so gooood! I'm addicted! Anywho you might like them too :)
When I started reading the Time Traveler's Wife I had very low expectations. I'm not one of those people who loves the Oprah books and other such things that I think people read to make them look intelligent. I thought this was one of those and yes, it is well written, but it is probably one of the most original, and beautiful love stories I have ever read. It took me a bit to get into and it was slightly confusing until I got the hang of it, but I absolutely adored it and cried like a baby too. When I saw the previews for the movie I cried because it was perfect. Those actors were exactly how I pictured the characters in the book. I'm so exicted to get my hands on her next book that came out yesterday. In a world of recycled themes and jump on the bandwagon vampire stories TTW was a breath of fresh air. And yes, I loved the Vampire Diaries, but I also loved them 15 years ago when I first read them so I'm a bit biased! How sad am I? :)
The dancer is from SYTYCD Season 4! I love Kherrigton!
I HATED A time traveler's wife. I forced myself to finish the book and then just hated the characters and was so disappointed with it. But then I thought I was the only one because goodreads.com reviews everyone gave it such good ratings? Yeah Crap.
Cloudy w/A chance of meatballs and Fame are both movies i so want to see!!!! I'm glad you liked them both!
Well I have been so busy working, but I did order Hunger Games from my daughter's Scholastic book order. ain't no thing. Yeah, so I got it months earlier than I could have checked it out at the library.
I only have a few minutes each day and it's killing me cause I just want to curl up and read it. all.day.long.
So Hunger Games is on my list of love and I'm not even done with it yet!
I love cloudy with a chance of meatballs! I have been so excited for the movie! I am glad you like it! Can't wait to go see it!
Okay, time travelers wife... I agree! But, and yes there is a but, I managed to get through it and I ended up giving it 2 1/2 stars at the end. It did make me cry. I went to see the movie, and really enjoyed the movie, however, they left all of the important details out. I was NOT a fan of the language in the book or the detailed sex scenes so I wouldn't recommend it either. :)
I haven't been to the movies in 1000 years, and I do still have an animated crush on Eric from The Little Mermaid.
Whatevs. I'm cool with it.
I'm reading Catching Fire and I'm slightly irritated that I'm online right now instead of reading, but frankly, my dear, that's how much I love your posts.
umm totally had a major disney crush on prince eric. babe. hmm, i actually really liked time travellers wife, although i could maybe do without all the sexual imagery. i was a total bawl baby when i finished it. but i can't wait to see cloudy with a chance of meatballs! i loved the book growing up too!
I LOVED Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs as a kid. In fact, I wish I had the book so I could read it now! :D
And thanks for the opinion on Fame. I REALLY wanted to see that!
I am glad to hear you liked Fame. The original is mass corny! I can't wait to see this one! The blonde- Kerrington, was on So You Think You Can Dance, two season ago. Amazing! I loved her! She and her partner for most of the time, Twitch, were phenomenal together. You should YouTube "Twitchington."
Also- Vampire Diaries the TV series, seriously getting so good! I bought the 1st and 2nd book today. Hope to find time to read soon!! Be happy!

Haven't read any of the books or seen any of the movies, but I'm still intrigued by the TTW... I've heard such mixed opinions, that I'm curious to find out for myself. But firrrrst... I'm going to the bookstore today to buy The Hunger Games. And yes, that is because you made me wanna read it badly. BADLY! :-)
PS: I also still have a crush on Eric from The Little Mermaid. I'm cool with that.
PPS: A movie about flying hamburgers? Bring it on!
Oh Lauren...I downloaded The Timetraveler's Wife for my iPhone...if I'd had the book I would've put it down. I just couldn't get into it either! Wonder how the movie will actually turn out...hmmmm...
Stefan = hawt. must read the books...
and i've heard so much about Fame! better go to the theatres soon... :D
I agree on The Fury and Dark Reunion! Loved those books! And Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was tons of fun!
Maybe I'll have to go see Fame...
I haven't read the Time Travelers Wife. I saw the movie, and it was really hard to follow, so I assumed the book would be too.
So glad you liked Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs. We took Liam last Friday and all three of us loved it! It was darling and it was so funny!
Steve was my favorite part. Reminded me of the 4th clone in Multiplicity - Pizza Steve.
I loved the book Cloudy... I've only heard great things about the movie- I'm going to see it now! *Off to convince Tony to see it with me...
I hated Time Travelers Wife the book, it was inappropriate with to many makeey out times, an affair and other inappropriate stuff. I love Secret Life of Bees the book! Read it it rocks! I want to have an apiary now! I need to read #3 and 4 of the VD. I will soon!
I love Kerrington Payne. End of Story, so therefore, I am DYING to see FAME!
I LOVE Cloudy With a Chance!!! Need to see it!!!! And I cant wait till Where the Wild Things Are comes out!
thanks for stopping by my blog! so i did a post about the movie the time traveler's wife. i felt like people were really upset that i didn't love the movie! i just didn't understand it, and found it very bizarre. anyway, if you go here you can see my review on the movie here..
http://seanandchloe.blogspot.com/2009/08/confused.html
:) i loved cloudy with a chance of meatballs too! especially in 3D. i wish it would snow ice cream here!
wow, im so glad i've found someone else who didn't like the time traveler's wife. i was SO incredibly disappointed by that book and every time i mention my distaste i get ripped to pieces and accused of not having a heart. thank goodness there is someone else like me.
I saw Cloudy this past weekend with my boyfriend and we watched it in 3d! I honestly had no clue what to expect but it was a really good, kind of odd movie!
Also, the girl that you liked from Fame she use to be on the show "So you think you can dance?" she was my dads favorite contestant! Crazy huh?
I actually just ordered them this morning. I am anxious to get them now!
um. the movie cloudy with a chance of meatballs was Ah-dor-ah-ble. I loved it. :)
it seriously too me forever! to read the time travelers wife. For-EV-er. srsly. it was good and all but it was really detailed. i like details... but not really when im swimming in them. and im the type that if i start a book... a have to finish! HAVE TO! :D i started pride and prejudice and zombies and just cant get through it. so... im not going to pick up another book until i finish p&p&z. kinda sucks, but i have made up my mind :D
