Ok, so here I am again, doing unpaid advertising for someone who probably makes about 1 million times more money than me...but whatev, it aint no thing!
Dude. Have any of you heard of "The Mortal Instruments" series by Cassandra Clare? No? Yeah, well I hadn't either until my trusty Lula told me to read them. You guys, srsly...Lula is my source for all things awesome. I would go more into that but this post is about reviewing crap. Suffice it to say, Lula has never led me to a book series I didn't like.
Anywho, I went to Barnes and Noble and found me-self book 1 in the series...

well hello there book cover man...aren't you looking rather makey outey tonight. I know they say not to judge a book by its cover but, hi...
Anyway, apparently the author is a "big deal" in the fanfiction world. Not like I would know anything about fanfiction or who is "a big deal" in it...but whatev. She is like fanfiction royalty in the Harry Potter realm. That's cool. I bet JK Rowling hates her. And yet again, I am getting way off track...
Ok, so the book is set in New York City...pretty much the city that I yearn to tear it up in before a baby Tedauren comes along. The book's main protagonist is Clary (weird name) and she is BFF with a nerdy boy named Simon (reminds me of the chipmunk) who is in love with her. Isn't that how it always is? I don't want to tell you anything so I will just say, the other main protagonist is named Jace, which I didn't think was a hot name until I found out he is the one on the cover. He is a "shadowhunter" which is pretty much a Bad-A 24/7 destroying demons, vampires and werewolves.
I feel so Dungeons and Dragons right now. I promise I am not a nerd. That would be Ted. I am the normal one in the relationship. But I am telling you right now...the book was really entertaining. It took me a little while to get into it, but then it really picked up and I couldn't put it down. If you saw my tweets you would know I was a little more than pissed at the ending. Do not fret...I am on the second book right now, and I am loving!
Go buy "City of Bones" so we can discuss the hotness that is Jace Wayland! Dude...he is the shiz!*
*not as much of the shiz as Peeta...or Edward...but close!

My friend was reading this book and she told me it was good. I honestly didn't believe her because it looked like a "dungeons and dragons" sort of book. haha but maybe now i will try it!:)
I have had this series on my list of MUST READs for far too long =(
for measure, my list is 37 titles deep...
I'll let you know when I make it there!!! <3
I still haven't read Hunger Games or Catching Fire...I am sooo behind the times. I did ask my husband for both of them for Christmas. So we will see.... BTW I think you are amazing and please don't let anyone elses negativity get you down. Do what makes you happy, ignore the haters and live your best life!
I totally agree that Jace is no where near the shiz that is Edward or Peeta.
I borrowed the first book and bought the last two, and ended up returning them both to Target :-\ The story is pretty intriguing I think, there were definitely times when I couldn't put the books down because I wanted to know what happened, but in the end the quality of writing was a major turn off. But that's the English major in me :)
ahhh another lauren book recommendation. i fell in love with peeta (and hunger games) so im soo happy you have another one for me to read...
Jace Wayland is my hero. Amen.
This series is highly entertaining. And very different.
Oh, and Jace is good times. Did I already say that.
I also love Magnus Bane. The end.
I'm so glad Lula helps you help me... love to you both! I still need to read about Peeta Mellark....geesh... you would think you didn't have kids you read so fast ;)
Cheers
woo! so happy that you have found this series! I read the first one a few months after I had finished the twilight series and it was really the first thing I had loved since them. Just wait til you get to book 3! City of Glass is UNBELIEVABLE. by far the best in the series. you will be swooning over jace, fersure. so excited to hear your thoughts on the second book, because I followed your tweets through book one and I was feeling the same way. I was so mad at the ending of city of bones, I was like come on! but I digress... enjoy the read!

I first read these 2-3 months ago. It took me a while to get into it, but pretty much once Jace's amazing sarcastic-ness became apparent, I was hooked.
City of Bones was good, but City of Ashes and City of Glass basically trounce it. I adore them.
I learned long ago not to question any book you recommend. I always put them off.. thinking no way would I like that.. but when I finally break down and read, I die because I end up falling in love. I saw these books at the bookstore and wondered about them... now I can't wait to go buy!!
Oh, and "I know they say not to judge a book by its cover but, hi.." Funniest Thing Ever. You crack me up.
I love that the author got her start with fanfiction. Cracks me up. Sadly, I used to REALLY be into that. LOL
I am so picking this up once I finish Catching Fire. Because right now I am all about Peeta!
Yay! This is one of my favorite series! And Jace, holy moly that is hotness!
My sister is reading it right now and is freaking out ...for reasons I won't mention so I don't spoil it for anyone else, but she's at the end of the story so ya know what situation between two characters I'm talkin' bout here. (If that even made sense, lol)
Now I haven't read Hunger Games yet (the only person alive who hasn't), but uh...sorry, Edward just doesn't do it for me like Jace does. He totally kicks butt and them some! *runs and hides*
I suppose now I must move to the 2nd book since you said it was better. I hope they fixed everything that was awful in the ending of the first book.
I read this series awhile ago but I liked it A LOT. Simon's my fave right behind Jace just because Jace just rocks at life and that's an important quality to have. My fave is the third book!
I love Peeta.
I got The Hunger Games at the library the other day ( Last week ), and all I could think was "Lauren would be so proud of me"!
Hmm...I've heard of them. I'll need to look up the author in HP Fanfiction world.
Guuuuurrrrllll!!!! I have read the entire series...last year. And I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and say that as much as I heart the Twilight series...this one tops it. Yep, I said it. You just wait. Perhaps you cannot see that clearly right now, but when you are finished with the series and you put that shiz down you are gonna think of me and say "Yeah, that really WAS better than Twilight!"
You're welcome. :)
P.S. Hit me up on fb when you come to that realization......
A couple of my friends read this series. I haven't gotten that far yet, as I have quite a long list going of books I need to read. But eventually it will happen.
Nice mention of Dungeons and Dragons by the way. I have to admit that I am the nerd in my relationship...
Hi Lauren! Your blog always puts a smile on my face when most needed! You'll be happy by the end of the series... don't worry! TMI seriously made me want to throw the books out the window sometimes (Hello, the end of City of Bones destroyed me!) but it was worth it in the end!
OMG! LAUREN! I am so freaking glad you read this. Did I lie? No. I did not. Was it amazing? Yes it was. OK, um, haaaiii. CoA and CoG. Seriously. So good.
kthxbye.
Hello there friendly reader friend... i read these books last month... I died in love with them and my poor husband and kids died because of my love for them. seriously i think there may have been more than one night i made them all fend for themselves while i got some literary therapy. I love these books, the 3rd was my favorite... can't wait till your done... so we can discuss.
Yeah, i agree he is no Peeta, or Edward... but I love Jaces tortured soul.mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yeah baby yeah.
i just...can't get into it. i am almost done, and the only parts i like are when jace is involved. i will finish it, and probably read the next one [since that's how i roll] but i really hope it gets better.
I have been on the waiting list since August at the Library, I got an e-mail this morning that the City of Bones is waiting for me!!! I am so excited to read it!
Cassandra Claire! I read her HP fan fiction back in the day! It was soooo good.
I still haven't read the Hunger Games. Don't tell me there are more books out there yet!
Oh, I have a neighbor named Clary. She is Puerto Rican and adorable!
Yup, read em, loved em. And I'm not ashamed of that. :)
I'm glad you found it! They are a ton of fun and have a fiction love thang for Jace. Because he is a hottie hot.
I AM SO HAPPY YOU HAVE READ THIS!!!
I was quickly obsessed with these books. Look on my blog for how quickly I read them. You have to read the next two that are out!
so I LOVE City of Bones. I read Cassie's fanfic back in the day and was in love with it so when I found out she was actually becoming a published author I got my hands on those books!!
The whole series is great and I'm IN LOVE with Jace (More than Edward & Gale & Peeta!! Combined!!!!) I also hated the ending of City of Bones! Made me sooo mad! But just think about having to wait a WHOLE year for City of Ashes to come out!
But just keep reading! I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!
these books are incredible!! love love love them. jace wins at life.
I started this series just when the last one came out. I saw it on Stephenie Meyer's website. She talked about how she was really excited for this last book because she loved the series. I really, really liked it, but I agree with someone (the english major) who mentioned the quality wasn't so great. It was however, super interesting, a bit creepy for awhile, but satisfying nonetheless!
I think you would really like the Heir series by Cinda Williams Chima. The first is The Warrior Heir. Fabulous trilogy!
I'm just waiting for my sister to finish it so I can read!
At first, this post made me feel ashamed that I only know CC because of Harry Potter fanfiction (where yes, she was one of several queens) then I remembered I was 12 when I read her stuff and felt better.
[However, there is no excuse for the fact that I am now RE-reading her Fanfic....but it's simply in the name of research. I want to re-read it then read her original fiction and see how either one informs the other...because I have this nagging feeling this Jace guy will be as sarcastically awesome as her fanfic Draco is.]
You should be getting paid for the advertising you do on BBL!! Srsly.
I am reading 'Hunger Games' right now...and um. hi..I heart Peeta Mellark!
This may have to make it into my Amazon cart as well!
i love jace.
I'm not going to lie.. I would probably never read these... because I don't read anything but magazines.. and twilight and the scriptures.. but I LOVE how passionate you are about things.
You make me happy with it. :)
Hey Lauren! I haven’t commented in forever but I saw this and just couldn’t keep my mouth shut!
I SO know what you mean about Jace!
Not Edward but close. Like you, this series took me awhile but as soon as jace came into play, I was all about Jace.
There are SO many favorite lines and quotes I have marked on my goodreads page but I think this is a def. favorite...
""Is this the part where you start tearing off strips of your shirt to bind my wounds?"
"If you wanted me to rip my clothes off, you should have just asked."" -Jace
— Cassandra Clare (City of Bones)
The ending...yes I know...I was SO pissed as well but keep going. The third book, oh my...it's rough. I aint gonna lie but when it comes to Jace with clarey...Edward would approve on those moments! Let me know when you start reading the third...I wanna know what you think about this one scene...and you'll know which one I'm talking about. It will all be worth it in the end :)
Have you gotten to the fairy court part in the second book??????
How nerdy is it that I've played D&D before, or the fact that I call it D&D. I didn't like it though!
I'm thinking of reading this book now, Thanks! :)
I just became a follower of yours and have to say I love your blog! The way you write is so personal, it really is a joy to read your words. Thank you for being so creative and, dare I say, adorable!

Sorry about all the haters. I've been AWOL in blog land for a bit and I missed a that.
You are the shiz and I love you!
Hope they leave you the H alone!
I totally flippin' love the Mortal Instruments series. I've been compliling my own list of who should star in the movie when they (please, oh please) make movies of them. LOVE IT!!!
I've been in love with those books forever!!!!!! I finished the last book in the series a while ago....:( It was soooo gooood! But sadly it is over....
What's is your favorite part of the book?
I love Alec!!!!!!!!! And Simon!!!
Who is your favorite character!!!?
She is totally one of the bests authors eveh!!!!
Peeta and Jace tie!!!!! They are both amazing fictional characters! :P

:)
Soooooooo I just became your 700th follower. You're welcome. ;)
I've been told by several people that this is a great series to read and I've been meaning to check it out. One of these days I'm sure I will.
I have been telling you and everyones else to read this book forever! they are just AMAZING! I think I might even like them better than Twilight! yeah... I said it! What part are you at?
I found the audiobook for COB, and by chapter 12, 13... I was not loving it. So I just gave up on it, even though every book blogger I know says this book rocks. Maybe I should get back to it, but if I had a printed version of the book.
In which chapter did you start to feel excited, and made you pick it up again?
oh, yeah, this is a series to read. Love Edward and Peeta - but Jace is going right up there. By the end of the series, you are going to put Jace up there with the other two, and sexy, boy does he come across sexy to me, not just physically but attitude and all. Ok enough with his character. The books are awesome. I loved all three! The Mortal Instrument series seriously rocks, and I also have a must read list a mile long. I put it above the other stuff I've been reading lately (except the Hunger Games series, too). Really try it out - PROMISE you'll love it if you try to get into it.
Didn't I tell ya you'd like this series? :) I have my own cast list (b/c rumor has it these books will be made into movies) in my head. Well, on my crackberry. One of these days I'll blog about it!!
I read this series over the summer and fell head over heels in love with it. It is my favorite series (even over twilight, don't kill me.) And Jace has definately topped my favorite-guys-in-a-book list. Yes, I have a list. The fact that he's described to look just like Alex Pettyfer helps him make that list a lot easier btw. =) Glad you're finally reading!
I love these books. Simon is my hero. And Jace. I believe Jace is like Edward and Jake had a baby. Simon is the best...you will LOVE his storyline in the later books. He becomes more involved. Cassie Clare is writing a book all about him called the City of Fallen Angels and she is writing three prequels set in the 1800s as well called the Infernal Devices.
Here are some books you HAVE to read:
GONE. One of the best books ever.
The Luxe. Like a younger version Gone With the Wind. I love it. You'll love the vintage fashion in it.
Georgia Nicolson. I love British humor like this. Its for teens specifically, but the hilarity is adult.
I loved Mortal Instruments! So much so that they are right next to my Twilight books on my bookshelf! Truly. Ok, Melissa C. this is Melyssa F. The Luxe Books are amazingspice!
