i curl my hair a lot.
it is my hair-do of choice, so basically my curling iron and i are BFF.
well, this year i started going over to my mom's house in the mornings to work out, so after the workout i get ready for school there, and then head on off to do my bidness. naturally that means i have one set of makeup there, and one at home. the same thing goes for toothbrushes, straighteners, etc. one thing i don't have a duplicate of is a curling iron. so, at my mom's is the curling iron, and at home i am left without one.
being a human, i adapt to my unfortunate surroundings.
i had always heard that you could use your straightener to curl your hair, as long as the iron plates weren't wider than an inch...or somethin' like that. i also heard that it was nearly impossible to do if you didn't have short hair. i have also heard that zac efron is the hottest thing ever. basically what i am saying is, i hear a lot of things.
on one desperate day, i decided to be a big girl and test it out...and i ended up LOVING it.
it creates loose waves, that when tousled, looks pretty awesomespice.
here's how i did it...

i clamp a two inch section at the root, and then rotate the iron AWAY from my face, very slowly. with each rotation give yourself a little slack, as to let your hair easily slide through, between the plates. make sure not to clamp for too long in one section, or you will get a crease in your hair. it's all about "smooth sailing". yes...i just made that up. also, i like to leave about a little less than an inch of "ends" poking out, so that it doesn't look too finished. but, that's just me.
tousle, and spray!
the end.

I wish I could curl my hair with a straightener. I'm totally going to have to try it now.
I like this look a lot! I have been thinking about trying this for awhile, maybe I will now!
AHH! SO cute! I've never straight-curled... my hair is too thick for it to look nice straightened, so I'm just BFFS with my curler! HAha, yours, though, looks BEAUTIFUL as always!
This is great. Me & my hair straightener are bff. hehe. I never could get the curling iron to work right. hehe.
I used to do that with my hair when it was longer, now that it's short I can't get it right! So I don't know what those people are talking about. I LOVE curling with the straightener though. And your hair looks amazing!
I need to try this out with my Chi straightener asap! Thanks for this, I sooo appreciate it!
P.S. You look gorgeous, like you always do!
I call for a vlog about this.
I'm so jealous you get to see your mom and have sleep overs and stuff.. lucky!! I love your curls. I have not yet mastered that art..
I don't even have a curling iron and my hair is always curly :) I love the loose waves the straightener gives! great pics to show how you do it!
For real, I kinda did a long a line, and havent curled it since. its killin me, I used to have long hair and curled it EVERY DAY because my straight hairness was OOGLAY. so, When we play, you CANNOT make fun of my Her. haha got it!? but, I love your hair. oh is amaazing. if i could write a song..i would.
I need a skinnier straightener!!
Your hair always looks gorgeous.
Can I have your hair? Thanks!
Me and curly my hair in any form are just not friends =(
yes yes! i love using the straightener!
i have short hair (it's STARTING to get longER...but it's still pretty short)...
anywho...they make this itsy bitsy little straightener that makes it easier to curl short hair.
see the problem with short hair...is that you wrap it around the straightener...and you've used up all the hair.
with this little guy...you can make the curls look better on short hair!
just a tip for all you girls with shorter hair!
i'm not sure where i got it...my mom got it for me...but i'll ask her...and if you want to know you can e-mail me at jessesgirlblog{at}gmail.com and i'll get back to you!
I'm going to have to try this sometime. It sounds easy, but I am usually hair illiterate, so we'll see how it goes.
Cute! i should try this!
"being a human, i adapt to my unfortunate surroundings"
Oh Lauren, it's a miracle of technology AND resourcefulness!
I second the motion for a vlog.
OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH! No Cool! I have never been more happy to see Super Happy Girl in my entire life!
I am so happy right now from seeing her ginormous gums.
Oooohhh! I love straightener curling! I would have never guessed you curl yours this way too, because when I do mine it never looks nearly as good as yours. Girl, you have awesome hair hands down. But hey, this inspires me, maybe there is hope out there for me to hone my skills! Thanks for sharing your hair-do how-to! :)
Gorgeous as always! Since I can't even curl my own hair with a curling iron, I'm sure I couldn't do it with a straightener...
I will definitely have to try this out! I get similiar results with using my curling iron backwards...it's hard to explain but basically you start at the root and then wrap your hair around the barrel. It makes loose waves. I dont know why I just explained that here...haha. :)
This looks Amazing~ I can't wait to try it tomorrow!
I LOVE curling my hair with a flat iron! The fact that you can make it sort of bed head/sexy is what I love most about it, you look absolutely gorgeous in the pictures and your intro cracked me up! <3
My hair hardly ever holds curl, but I will have to try this method out.
Wait, Zac Efron is the hottest thing ever! (After my husband that is!)
And your hair looks so good! I gotta try the curling with a straightener.
Beautiful doll, it looks fabulous!
When my hair was a bit shorter (shoulder length) this worked so well for me. Now that it's longer not so much but your hair looks so beautiful!!! ox
Brilliant!
I had no idea such a thing could be done! AWESOME!
I like the straightener curls best too. It's been tough for me to get the hang of it but I'm learning! You always look freakin adorable hair curled or not.
no matter what i do i cannot get my hair to look good when i curl with the straightener i always get kinks!! my hair is like mid-back length. not gross long but pretty long, or so i think :)
Def. want to try the straightener-curl. I've always been afraid of the crease -- especially since I sometimes manage to get a crease when only using the straightener to straighten.
Sheesh. Will have to try it on a lazy Saturday when I don't have to leave the house if the results are horrible.
Fabulous hair! This has nothing to do with your hair but your phone rocks, I have the same one!
curling your hair with a straightener is the only way to do it..
Totally not impossible with long hair actually it looks 100% better with long hair. miss mine =(
your gorgeous girl.
Thanks for the tip, it looks great!...But apparently I am hair illiterate (or else it is just too late for me to understand new things) b/c I don't get it. Do you wrap hair around the straightener? Maybe if I tried it it would make more sense to me. Vlog? Please?
Now we just need you to teach us the appropriate way to tousle.
I'm with little miss paige -- I call for a vlog. I can never get mine to work right.
Oooh!!! I am running out at lunch time to buy a skinnier straightener and I am TOTALLY doing that to my hair tomorrow!!! Thx for the tips! :)
Here's a funny thing. My hair is naturally straight. If I curl it with a curling iron it falls apart within the hour, if I curl it with the straightener it lasts all day. Beautiful curls all day.
Awesome! I am so trying this!
You have gorgeous hair. And I'm so excited about your little tutorial, I've always wanted to know how to curl with the flat iron. I'm trying it! :)
That's absolutely gorgeous. Let's trade hair. :) (though I'd definitely be getting the better deal)
My daughters are excellent at this technique! Me...not so much! I still resort to my curling iron! You are so talented to be able to go back and forth!
ah, the hair tutorial.
how i wish you could just come to my house and do my hair every morning for me.
darling, have you noticed? you are the bees knees?! 1011 followers! holllllerrr...
I love curling my hair with a straightener. 'Cept my straightener is ancient and a fatso. And my hair is short. So I haven't done it in a while.
But your hair looks super amazing like that! I love it.
And about your missing dress... I went with my sister into her building's laundry room, and I would not trust my clothes in there. Especially if I had awesome clothes like you.
This makes me wish I didn't have a huge fatty flat iron.... That looks fantastic!!
I LOVE my straight iron!
That's all I use now for me and my girls.. I don't even use the curling iron anymore...
Love the chandeliers in the bathroom! :)
Awsome, I wll deff have to try this..
For sure the best way to curl hair in my opinion. Takes much less time than using a curling iron!
Another thing you can try is taking a stranding of hair and winding it around your finger until it's in an 'O' shape near your scalp, then put that 'O' between the flat iron plates. I'm not sure if I explained that very well...
It takes some practice to get the hang of, but once you get it down it makes perfect spiral curls. Just something to try. :)
Way cute! I never knew you could curl your hair with a straightener.
I do my hair that way all the time! I love it! :)
do you have thick or thin hair?
Autumn - I have pretty thick and coarse hair. I think it is coarser because it's also curly.
I rely on my flat iron to create curls, my hair is naturally straight and this is pretty much the only way it holds. Glad you discovered the wonderfulness that is the straightner!
I struggle with curling my hair with the straightener. I am going to have to implement your tips and try it again. Wish me luck!
i have a friend who showed me how to do this, but i'm kinda scared to try this, because i suck at hair :(. yours is really pretty.
okay-i'm pretty hair savy-and i'm lost. I agree: vlog!!! looks like a cascading hairfall of awesome though :)
I'm going to try this but Im already positive it won't work... I know that's really negative.
my husband loves it when i curl my hair! he got me a curling iron for christmas and i finally opened it yesterday after seeing your post and curled my hair! thanks for the inspiration.
Dear Lauren,
Thanks to this post I had hot hair today.
<3Lauren
I've always wondered how to do that. There's been many a times where I've only brought my straightener on vacation and really wanted curls. Thanks for the tips!
I saw a girl do the hair curl on youtube and was TOTALLY amazed!!! Very cute idea. I LOVE YOUTUbe...You can even get makeup and hair ideas on their. Plus funny videos about birds that say...WHAT ARE YOU DOING>
I think I have to start mastering THE BBL's curls. Sometimes, my natural curls are too messy.
