lost, but not forgotten.

i often think about how much i would love to just pack up and move out of this place.
sometimes when i read about people's lives in portland or seattle, i literally tear up.
what would it be like to be surrounded by such beauty and green all of time.
and to be surrounded by such awesome culture!

tonight i was looking through some of my picture files, and happened upon the following photos.
they were taken on our ginormously long anniversary trip.
they were on our way home from las vegas, and we were in arizona, anticipating our own home.
i remember what it felt like taking these photos...

i remember having an overwhelming sense of pride.
arizona is MY state. it is MY homeland. and it is beautiful.
i remember telling ted how grateful i was that we were fortunate to live in such a gorgeous place.
Heavenly Father loves us all so much. we are surrounded with so much beauty, even when some people (me) aren't always looking for it.

so even though arizona is full of mini malls, suburbs, fake acrylic nails and women that wear bootie shorts with their uggs...

I still love this place.

I think Arizona is beautiful too. I rarely look around at my home in Texas and see beauty but occasionally it finds me. I've always longed to live in Boston where there are actual seasons. But home is nice too. :)

we often are thinking of far off places (far away- by ingrid is like our motto)
indiana is kind-of a boring state and we have to be creative. :)

I feel the same way about my state. Sometimes I just want to pack up and move somewhere else, but then I remember how much I love it here! And I love your blog :) I haven't been following long but have loved every minute so far :)

those clouds look incredible!!

I know how you feel. I think about living somewhere other than Massachusetts sometimes, but then I don't think I ever could. After living here my whole life I couldn't imagine living in a completely different place. I'll visit, but in the end I think I'll stay here =)

You are so right! I live in the desert, and whenever I visit Washington I think of how much I wish I could live there. Then I move home, and realize my home has it's own beauty. Even if it's different, it's still beautiful.

It's precious how you love your home state.

Because you've never been to Georgia, aka God's Country, and don't know any differently.

Bless you...

I'm considering moving to Seattle. That'd be so cool to see your perspective on living there....

I think sometimes it's hard to appreciate the things we see everyday. I remember the first time I drove out to AZ with my best girlfriend when she was moving out there. It was night time, full moon and nothing but stars for as far as the eye could see. She and another friend took me to this park that was like a mini canyon with a small lake in the middle. I remember it took my breath away and I have never forgotten it. I wanted to stay there my whole life. Every place has its beauty because this world is so beautiful...we just have to remember to be searching for the beauty instead of being disappointed by what's on the surface.

"bootie shorts with their uggs.."
I literally laughed out loud on that one because it is so true! That would be my one complaint with AZ, the hoochies in their next to nothing clothing. I love it here though, I would way rather the heat, than snow. eww snow. I hate the cold.

I hearts AZ. I really really really don't heart it when girls wear uggs with shorts. Blech.

I sooo soooooo wish I lived there! I live in a very very not so very nice gross not great - didn't I mention it's not too great here - place. But I've always been a fan of AZ!

I agree with Lula! haha. Georgia is quite amazing, but I agree with you too. When I see people talking about Washington and Oregon I get a bit jealous, but then I just sit back and realize how wonderful home is. It saddens me that I'll be leaving GA next fall for grad school :(

even tho i claim to have a 'i can't wait to get out of this state' mentality, i know there's no place like home.

thank you for reminding me to appreciate what i already have.

I've been to Arizona a grand total of one time, for 3 days (for the Book Babe event), but I immediately fell in love with it.
I'm a born and bred Illinois girl, who loves having the four seasons, and even loves the snow (for some reason). Yet, I completely love the desert. I've determined that I'm going to live there someday, at least for a while.

Yes Seattle is beautiful! I live in Tri-cities WA (on the other side of the mountains) BUT I am a proud born and raised Mesa girl and its so different here living here! I've lived in WA sense last May. I love the springs here in the Tri-cities, although not as green as say seattle its very beautiful but I miss my AZ so much! It really makes you appreciate your home State so much more when you are gone, you just forget how beautiful it is.

I LOVE those pictures. I felt the same way when we were in AZ. Now that I am not there anymore I miss it terribly. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side... :)

That's the way I feel about Kansas...even if so many people have such a hard time seeing the beauty in it all.

I often feel the same way about Nova Scotia when I leave it and go to Washington... I love coming back here though time and time again. I think I will appreciate it more once I move to the US and can only come back here on occasion.

I love Arizona! I want to live some place green though too. I think living here creates that desire. I would absolutely LOVE to live in Boston or in Portland...maybe someday :)

Emily said...

You gotta love where you live, even if the only good thing about it is you. Plus, if it's somewhere not so "beautiful" it make vacationing that much better.

Those pictures are amazingly beautiful.

i know exactly what you mean. every so often i get it in my head that we should move to TX or somewhere like that so we can afford to buy a house...but then i see the beautiful coast here in San Diego and immediately change my mind. i would miss my ocean too much.

I totally agree... even though I love being here in Hawaii, I miss AZ so much! It was so nice to go "home" for christmas/new years! I already miss it....

I feel the same way about Texas...I think we all have our state pride. I have enjoyed Boston and I am so grateful that we have had this opportunity. I need to get back to TX SOON!

This was a very beautiful post!

Definatly agree!! Anytime we come home to AZ to see family from Wyoming.. its soo nice to see a mountain and dirt!! I never thought I would miss it...but I do everyday.. when I walk outside to the freezing snow.. and 40 mile winds every day. I say only a few more years till we can move somewhere else!! And hopefully back to Arizona!

Dearest Bee, I must agree with you. I live in Portland for 10 years and grew to love the pretty views, but also grew to hate the intense amounts of rain and no sunshine. FOR REAL, Who can live with out sunshine. Since being married, Ive lived in New Mexico. Its not that pretty, there aren't many girls in booty shorts and uggs, but theres also nothing else to look at , Sad day. But, I always remember when I visit home, How much I LOVE IT. I LOVE MESA. I LOVE arizona. I love the warm sunshine, The sunkissed hotties, The bad winter fashion half made for summer and half made for below zero weather. I love the Monsoon Season, The energy, The people. I have to agree with you.

" Ain't no place, like the Home place." -Me

Much love girl!
PS LOVE your last post. Im obsessed with flats! booya!

so funny you should blog about this topic because it's been on my mind too.
i am an oregonian (although currently a utahn) but i would love to live in arizona. i've visited a few times as has my husband, and we just love it. granted, there are things about the northwest that are great too as we've both also lived there.
i guess in the end we just love home, wherever it happens to be. :)

wow those cloud pictures look fantabulous! i took a few today because mart made me and they look surreal! it was taken from the car but the clouds are so unique. i love love cloud pictures!

Those pics are gorgeous.

I struggle often with the thought of moving. I'd love to move. I've lived in the same state all 22 years of my life and I'd love to pick up and just leave. But it still pulls at my heart that this has been my home for so long.

where we live has some beautiful areas that i try to concentrate on but i'd like to move because of the people rather than the place. it'd be nice to be able to walk to town without having to navigate safely past a smelly drunk no matter what time of day it is.
on a happier note, i have fallen a little bit in love with the last photo.

I feel exactly the same when I read people who live in the US. I'd like so much to live there, it's such a wonderful place, and your photos are here to prove it =]

Seattle is beautiful, I miss it so much ( I used to live there ). But then I htink about all the wonderful things in the D.C area. Hm...I still miss it. Haha, jk. Those pictures are sooo pretty!

Well said Lauren...our home is what we make of it. I think we can find beauty and contentment wherever we live. It is where our heart dwells and that is the most beautiful place on earth.

When I moved away from Utah I lamented the loss of seasons and the beautiful mountains and lush trees of my little home town. Now that I've lived in California for quite some time, I find beauty and contentment everywhere here - so much so that I heave a sigh of relief when we walk into our little apartment from a long vacation. Home is truly where your heart is.

I think the Arizona desert is incredibly beautiful but I didn't when I lived there as a kid. I think you guys should go to BYU-Hawaii to finish Ted (and Mark's) schooling. There is no place better.

In the end I think everyone feels that way about their own home, but I must agree...AZ is my home state and I love it's diverse beauty! I miss it every day!

And...there is a reason Washington and Oregon are so green people...I lived there for 8 years...I KNOW! It is call unceasing, omnipresent RAIN and GRAY SKIES!!! The grass isn't always greener...

Britney Jean said...

well put. i agree. every time i go on a road trip somewhere and we drive through az...i realize just how beautiful 'zona truly is. i love living here!

so is it bad that i like arizona, pretty much only because my family lives there? don't get me wrong, it has its beauty, but i can honestly say i'll be happy to never live there again, but i do love a good visit. (its probably just becuase i didn't grow up in arizona, maryland forever has my heart)

Those cloud photos are breathtaking.

I live in Louisiana, in a very small town, and I get exasperated with the place a lot because the people can be closed-minded and uneducated. I am embarrassed of the "deep South" stereotypes out there. But there are beautiful things about the place as well, and I take them for granted too much. Thanks for reminding me that there's no place like home!

Johanna said...

I've always dreamed of going to Arizona. The photos are so beautiful. I love the last one. It's so fun to play with the focus!

I think the best way to appreciate your home is to go away, and miss it. Right now I'm so sick of my home, well, the whole country of Sweden. It's cold and dark and too much snow. But if I went living somewhere else, I might realize that Sweden is actually where I belong.
