today i...

dude. i get that the barefoot contessa is like legit, and super awesome at cooking, but DUDE.
DUUUUDE. she is so boring. i have tried so many times to watch her show, but always find myself switching the channel to watch THE cook on television: "Live with Emeril".

with that being said, i was a barefoot contessa, today...
you know...with my little toesies that have been so neglected.
CAN-NOT wait to have them french tipped this weekend for my birthday.

anyway, i woke up at 8AM and started to make dinner. yes...dinner.
i diced up half of a large sweet onion.
1 red bell pepper
8 cloves of garlic
1 large eggplant

i drizzled the veggies with olive oil, and seasoned with basil/salt/pepper

i then roasted the veggies for 5 hours in the oven at 250 degrees.
the SLOW roasting is the key.

mmm...soooo delicious...

i then scooped up the roasted veggies and plopped them into the blender, along with half a jar of our favorite tomato sauce.

i blended it all together, and added a little more sauce because it got a little thick.

i then cooked up a little ground turkey, stirred in the sauce, and then slow cooked the sauce some more in the crock pot for 3 hours. let me just tell you...it was the best sauce ever.

after dinner i FINALLY framed my "keep calm" poster.
i figured it was time, considering i got it for my birthday LAST YEAR.

Agreed about the Contessa. Recipe looks yummy, and super cute pic. :)

Ina makes me feel awkward. Because I can tell that she's reading off a script. And she's not very good at it. My bestie and I just had this convo a few days ago.

I love Ina! I'm hurt by your calling her boring. sob.

That looks so delicious!!!! I like how you did all the photos of the process. Very cool! I've never watched the barefoot contessa, I guess I'll pass on her. lol!

Ina is very talented, and I love her recipes...but i get so sleepy after her show.

oooh what a yummy looking sauce! I bet the vegies made your house smell wonderful too as they were roasting away :)

Oh that looks so warm and delicious. I need to try that out.

I love your dwell deep print in the background. She does beautiful work.

Happy Birthday week!

Oooh your veggies sound so yummy! I slow roasted a roast w/veggies today and it was heaven - You are right, slow roasting is the key! And I think the Barefoot Contessa is boring too! BAM!!!!!
Have a Happy Week!

Looks fab! I'm sure the house smelled amazing all day long. That's my issue with slow cook recipes. I find that once the smell starts taking over the house, I have a hard time being patient.

Also, your decorating skills are great. Such cute stuff!

Well, Ina is only kind of boring these days because she has all the same friends on her show. I swear, if I see Michael arrange hydrangeas ONE MORE TIME I'm going to climb through my TV and strangle him. She needs to find some new gay boyfriends STAT.

Yummy recipe, by the way!

MM that looks delicious!!!

And love your posters!

The Boob Nazi said...

Her recipes always make me want to exercise haha.
And I don't get bored by hers, strangely enough. I don't know why. Giada, on the other hand, bores me to tears. (Maybe just because I get sick of looking at her cleavage. ugh.)

How odd....my sister and I were talking yesterday about how boring the Barefoot Contessa is and how painful it is to watch her show!

LanaBanana said...

My sister-in-law has that "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster up in her guest bathroom. From the first day I saw that I knew I'd like her. :)

Ina is only boring lately because she always has the same friends on her show over and over again. I swear, if I see Michael rearrange hydrangeas ONE MORE TIME I may climb through my TV screen and smack him. Ina needs to find herself new gay boyfriends STAT. Just saying.

Also, your recipe looks delish! xo

I must be culinarily challenged. What do you use the yummy veggie sauce on?

Lol, Rubert Gring has a shirt that says "Keep calm and Carry on" too. And it looks just like that.

Oh holy heck is barefoot Contessa ever boring to watch.... i just want her recipes with out her commentary...
however, I want both from you! Seriously... you should look in to having your own cooking show... have you seen somewhat homemade, (i think that is what it is called) .... where she decorates the table after cooking a fabulously easy meal.... that is so up your ally! (Although your meals don't seem to be too simple... hours in prep? Srsly you need a show to show the world your mad skills!)

My daughter was CONVINCED that first picture was one she took of herself in her Minnie Mouse dress! When I showed her your other pictures so she could see it wasn't her, she asked if she could come play with you some time :) that sauce looks delish.

i see a Dwell Deep poster! I have that one too! Where do you get cheap frames?

As I was reading this post, I was reminded of the last time I watched Ina, I guess the more appropriate phrase would be slept through her show. Every time I watch her, I fall asleep, regardless of what I'm doing. Sauce looks delicious.

Um, can I come to your house and have dinner? That sauce looks amazing, srlsy!! Agreed about Barefoot contessa, she can be very boring (reminds me of cooking shows my grandma would watch when I was a kid - sorry, but true LOL). I do love Giada though, Rachel Ray, and Alton Brown...that food network can be addicting!!

chelsea rebecca said...

THAT SOUNDS SO INCREDIBLE!!! i love a good sauce! and i adore your fun "minnie mouse-esque" dress!!
and those two posters are too cute!

OH boy! I agree with you, I have fallen asleep many times watching her show, but man does that sauce look good! I may have to steal that recipe... :)

Janet said...

I love Barefoot Contessa! Although I will admit...her voice is quite soothing and could probably put me to sleep. My husband wants to marry her when I die. .(For the food of course.) That is assuming that she outlives me and Jeffrey (her husband) doesn't.

TeresaD said...

I am SO jealous of your superior cooking skills. It looks amazing.

Colt said...

Two Things

1-I agree the contessa is boring.

2-Alton Brown and Bobby Flay are THE chefs on television...not Mr. BAM.

That is all, thank you.

I agree about Barefoot Contessa. So dull. She does have some great recipes though.

That looks so delicious! :)

I would have to disagree, I love the Barefoot Contessa - granted she is a little snooty, but she makes simple straight forward food that I love. Emeril on the other hand gets on my last nerve, and rarely makes anything that I would want to try myself. Guess I am just a Barefoot kind of gal.....

pretty sure that sauce sounds so dang good!

What kind of sauce did you put in your vegetable creation?

Busy Bee Lauren said...

I love Vodka sauce...and I pour my finished sauce over whole wheat pasta! Yum!

Rebecca said...

Yummy sauce!

Sorry, can't watch Emeril. Drives me crazy! I agree with the commenter that it's Alton and Bobby all the way!

I like Ina, she's soothing to listen to and reminds me of my mommy. With four loud children I like feeling soothed!

Well...did. We had to get rid of cable last year.
