all i want for my birthday is a new pair of tap shoes. specifically these black capezio taps from discount dance.
did you know i spent my entire growing up life tap dancing? i should probably show you some of my skills sometime.
on a similar note...anyone in the valley know of any adult tap classes for advanced tappers? i only ever see classes for beginners or intermediate.
it's so frustrating. i'd love to tap again other than on my kitchen floor tile.
also, can someone please hint to ted that i want these tap shoes? my birthday is in a week and a half!

How awesome! I used to tap dance I tapped from 4-13 then did jazz till I was 18.. I was pretty good at tapping but never that great with jazz but did it because I loved it and it made me happy! I am surprised you are wanting the heals, at the studio I went to the intermediate wore the heals, started with the cute patent leather ones, next moved to heel, then soft shoe. Though the heel ones are super cute! You def need to post a video of you tapping!
Laura - That is awesome! I actually was part of a company, and took jazz and ballet on top of tap, but tap was always my favorite. I remember we wore soft shoe most of the time, and then occasionally would wear the heels for certain dances, depending on the costume. I always thought the heels were the cutest, but not the easiest to tap in!
I had a pair very similar to those. I took tap lessons from ages 7-18, as well as jazz. I did ballet too, but I quit around age 12.
Whitney - I always despised ballet. I think it was because my teacher scared the crap out of me.
Busy Bee-I didn't really like it either. The teacher always picked on me and made things harder. I absolutely loved tap and jazz though!
So cool!! I love all of the old movies with tapping in them! It looks so fun! I wish I had taken it growing up... :(
That is SO awesome! You definitely have to post a video of you showing your tap dancing abilities soon!
If you get a pair of tap shoes, I'll probably be more excited than you.
our studio has an advanced tap class and a few of the girls are adults....but it's out in queen creek. you can look at the website if you want. dancematrix.net
That's so cool! I love watching tap dancing. I'm an Irish dancer, so we make sounds with our shoes, but not the same as tap. I would love to try tap sometime, though!
Good luck on your quest to get the shoes!
Thats such a cool talent! Hope you end up getting them, maybe they are already purchased and are hidden away ;)
Amy
I hope you get them! I use to tap dance but not very well it would be fun to go back and try it again. Ted if your reading this get this girl some tap shoes!
I always WISHED I could tap! And am always impressed by people who can.
I'm sure Ted will come through. Just "accidentally" leave this post open on the computer at home! ;o)
Saw on Pinterest that you can take a pair of shoes and glue pennies on them. VIOLA! Tap shoes!
I TAP TOO!!!! i danced my whole school career- from age 3 to 18. and i miss it so dang much. and can totally relate to tapping on your kitchen floor to prevent going through withdrawals. i feel your pain, girl.
have you checked mesa/tempe art centers? I have taken dance classes from there and have loved them. Also any community colleges. It's like $70 a credit but that's not so bad for dance if you ask me :)
You mentioned, you did it to yourself-- this means you DEFINITELY HAVE *GOT* to post a video of you tap dancing because of REASONS. Seriously. But on a serious note, I once "took" "tap dance classes" and those are all in quotations because of more good reasons because those classes sucked and I was so short they thought I'd do better in hip-hop.

Ooh! I spent my childhood doing tap dancing as well! I loved it so much and was so sad when I had to give it up! I hope you're able to find a advanced tap class around you!
CUTE. What's his email? I'll drop a hint -- don't worry, I'll make sure it's extremely subtle, as if you never asked ;)
AHH! Yes. I love them. So classy, and fun too! :)
And please Laur, show us your skills- I assume it will be entertaining. ;)
Ky
oooh those are WAY fun!
I did tap a bit when I was younger, but was always more into ballet and jazz. I'd love to go back to take lessons! If only I had the time!
Aghhh I feel the same way about gymnastics! I can only ever find classes with fifteen or fourteen year olds (I'm 18) and I don't want to take a beginner's class, especially since no one usually begins at 18. Frustrating!
I hope you find a place though - it's so great to have a sort of physical outlet that's exercise but art all at once :)

remember that time when I tried to convince you to post a dance video on your blog? YEP, STILL TRYING.
You tap dance? High five, gurrrlfreeenn. I was in my high school's production of 42nd Street... they taught us how to tap. Pretty awesome. Please do a tapping vlog sometime soon.

I like walking around in a pair of tap shoes :)
I loved my tap class at MCC! There's "intermediate" and then there's "advanced," but really they are the exact same difficulty. The "advanced" one is just the tap ensemble that does a little more performing. The teacher is pretty great I think, but you're prolly a more proficient tapper than I am. It's worth a try I guess!
Also, Phoenix Theater does some dance classes. I haven't taken any tap there so idk how advanced it is, but I know some of the people who choreograph/teach there are pretty legit.
thats really neat that you dance - i only did tap once but i love jazz, ballet, and ballroom and idk what i'm going to do when i get out of school and cant take classes for free anymore!
DOOD we must be soulmates (solemates?) because i asked for tap shoes for my birthday too! my mom joined a middle-aged women tap group a few years ago (they're called tap pups - look it up if you're in the mood for some ridiculous)and ever since then i've been kind of seriously jealous. i'll be sending good birthday karma your way!
is this brought on because you saw the episode of Psych were gus tap dances? haha. those are darling!

Lauren! I LOVE this post. I've known you were great for a long time now but this just put you over the top in my book. I tapped for about 8 years growing up and just loved it. I was soooo not a ballet fan. I mean I love watching it but actually doing it is just not for me. But tap is the greatest! I always wanted high heeled tap shoes as a kid and never got them. I sure hope you get these! I've also been dying to take an adult tap class. I think you just inspired me to go find one.
Holy crap! We need to take tap together when I move back down! I bet Jennifer would find us a class!
Also, I got a pair of high heeled taps my senior year of high school and they are awesome! I love them so much! I went to the dance shoe store and picked out a pair of black t-straps and then had them put taps on them. They can do it with nearly any shoe...imagine...tap oxfords! :)
