Spring fever has kicked in big-time for me. It’s all I can do to get myself into the office each day, especially with all of the beautiful we’ve been having here in Rhineland-Pfalz. Here are the 7 things killing my productivity.
1. The sun is shining
We didn’t have a bad winter in Germany in terms of cloudy, dreary days, but the crappy days we did have really got to me. It was like someone pulled a bag over my head and kidnapped my sense of humor. I was ready for it to be over when it had barely started.
2. The days are longer
Germany gets some seriously long days during daylight saving time. I love it!
3. The birds are singing love songs to each other
Anyone who knows me well knows that I’m terrified of birds. It’s a completely irrational fear, but I can’t seem to shake it, and it only gets worse as I get older. Springtime mating songs make me forget how much I despise them. I really do enjoy hearing them in the spring.
4. The flowers are blooming like crazy
I love flowers. They smell good. They look good. They make me feel good when I have them in the house.
5. The sunroof is wide open
I lovelovelove opening my sunroof as I’m pulling out of the parking lot after work. Nothing says it’s time to let my hair down like the wind whipping through it to tear it out of my Air Force-approved bun.
6. The fields are lush and green
Green symbolizes fresh starts for me. I love seeing the fields growing up with whatever the heck they are growing outside my village here in Germany. Seeing the different shades of green covering the rolling hills of the countryside puts a smile on my face every day as I’m driving in to work.
7. The baby animals are frolicking
My mom and I almost wept with joy over being able to cuddle and love on a little moo-let (calf, or baby cow for you normal folks) at Keukenhof Gardens last weekend. The baby farm animals are too cute and I love seeing them trotting around the fields behind their mothers.
Spring is my favorites season for many reasons, but these 7 things I love about spring together mean that we’re finally breaking out of the winter doldrums. Happy days!
